LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.

A member of an indoor rowing team or club? If so, this is the place for you.

Can this one team row to the moon and back?

Slight variation on the theme Bazz - mine are around the grip of the handle.
I find it just the right width to allow my thumb and forefinger to be just off the edge of the band, gripping the actual handle diameter, whilst the rest of my fingers are relaxed around the "padding":
Good idea Dave.

I use weight lifting gloves. It's been hard to find ones the right size. My problem is that my hands will fall asleep while rowing. I keep the velcro strap around the wrists real loose. The problem is the material between my fingers keeps sinks in too deep. If anyone else has this problem, try cutting the material between your fingers from the inside of the gloves. That was the solution for me.

Thanks Ron. I've never had someone taunt me while jogging, but it may be because I don't jog. :P My goal is to lose enough weight that I could actually try jogging a bit. I'm still so heavy that jogging is murder on my body.

Congrats on the milestone AJ!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 9.26.11

Post by Kona2 » September 27th, 2011, 1:41 pm

Image Another episode...small acts of rebellion...

Image There I was...rounding up the meters everyone produced yesterday (and a whopping 43 percent of the team produced meters! woot!)...and something was amiss. The spreadsheet was not balancing. There were 119 meters that I was struggling to account for in the day. Looking in the usual places didn't provide the answer. And then it hit me: I was witnessing A Small Act of Rebellion....and I was down the bunny trail practically before I knew it.

There are lots of things to say about the importance of small acts of rebellion - everything from challenging conformity, the importance of free will, and challenging "the system" - whatever that happens to be. Michael Stangier (http://www.pleasefeedtheanimals.com/201 ... y-stanier/ - if you want to read the whole thing ) wrote a blog on Six Small Acts of Rebellion in which he quoted Mike Abrashoff, the former Commander of the USS Benfold and author of It's Your Ship:

“If a rule doesn’t make sense, break it. If a rule does make sense, break it carefully.”

And so this leads me back to the 119 meters. Danno is a long time team member - and fierce competitor. Not being able to row right now meant not being able to contribute meters to the Fall Challenge. Not participate in a challenge?! Hah - unacceptable. He's found a way to contribute some meters...carefully. :D

This led me to also think about and want to comment on our adaptive rowers - we have several teammates who have challenged themselves to find another way to continue with their athletic careers and active lives. These are amazing teammates with some great stories to tell. The way that all are contributing is truly inspirational to everyone on the team. So glad that you each started with small acts of rebellion that said "there has to be a way"! There are 337 days until the 2012 Paralympics in London. They start on August 29 and run through 9 September.

Season meters as of 150/365 = 58,178,860 m

Total meters on the day = 818,896 m

Oars in space (participation) = 43 percent

I figured it would get a mention in Kona's post, but since I didn't see it: Earlier this morning (I noticed it at 11AM CST)...

We passed the 10 million meters for the Fall Challenge!

Edit: Okay, so while I was hunting down information as to how to increase my font size, Kona posted it too... Grrr :) Congratulations and well done everyone!

Way to row, Barbara! You encourage - and inspire - many others on this team! And, you've timed this mega-achievement so well - you'll get that Concept2 sweatshirt just in time for the frost!

Wow...

You're our entire Fall Challenge team rolled into one, bg :). Congratulations. May I suggest taking some rest after 10,000km?
