looking for a team
I'd like to join a team. I've only been rowing for about 3 weeks. I am a runner recovering from a foot injury, so I am not new to fitness by any means. I am looking for motivation, comeraderie and fun!

The Luna-Tics team (so named for our goal to row the distance to the moon and back) is an open team for all challenges and for year round affiliation membership. We welcome rowers of all ages and abilities - doesn't matter how long you've been rowing or erging. We have many who are using rowing as a crosstraining for other sports - or to rehabilitate after injuries. Check out our team forum room (Luna-Tics Team Forum) in the Teams section.
Regardless of which team you join, I think you'll find that you are rowing more consistently (and wanting to row) as well as pushing yourself just that little bit extra. We often have team discussions on our forum pages about the merits of rowing gloves (whether to use them or not, which ones work better for us), importance of breathing technique, how to best prepare for your first half marathon if that's a distance goal you have - and things of that nature. We're a social group always cheering each other on - including cheering on for non-rowing events as many team members bike or run or ski, etc., in addition to rowing. And when life throws a curveball, well we are supportive there, too.
We definitely have some fun with the team challenges. Last year's Fall Challenge created the Luna tribe with our teammates trying to earn their canoe, get into the canoe, get a paddle, or get turbo charged for those who were quite ambitious with their distances. You never know what the season's challenge may bring - and sometimes what we add to the mix is just a one time thing (but it's for fun each time).

This is going out of comfort zone but here goes. So after spending two fabulous weeks deep in the heart of Ontario where about the only sport was rowing a boat on the lake, I have decided to really pursue this indoor rowing. My good friend, who is letting me use his condo to live for awhile, has a Concept 2 rower in the basement. I tried it once about a year ago and that was it. I feel like I've tried so many things to try to lose or maintain weight and to keep healthy. Usually once the "newness" wears off or the challenge ends, there is little motivation for me.
My friend has been motivating and encouraging me and introduced me to this Concept rowing. (I now find myself into week 3). I find now that it really is something I enjoy doing because I can "make" the time to get it done and I can challenge myself to do better in some way. That said, I would love to be part of a team for the Fall Challenge. I think it's a great way for me to get my feel wet.

Just wait till the march madness challenge. that was a beast rowing 10k everyday.

I want to second Adam and say if you haven't yet picked a team, TimBukToo is a great, supportive team where you can get your feet wet (in the virtual sense, of course!) and work towards any goals you may have. I've been a member for a couple years now, and it keeps me on the rower when I'd otherwise be on the couch!
