We are STILL waiting for an IND_V 5K at "Only" 1:48 pace from Ranger ! :lol:

It would appear he has got stuck in his mobility scooter somehow.

I already responded to this. The day I had both my speed coach and my Garmin going at the same time, I didn't make any rigorous tests. I just noted casually how they were ticking off distance relative to one another. I'll need to make a rigorous test to make sure that I am right about the 1.0 calibration. In fact, I should probably do several tests, both on a given day and across several different days , as well as across several different distances, just to reduce accidental error.

I am not a 55s rower anymore.

Anyway, been there, done that--in spades.

Even rowing badly at max drag, as a complete novice, I rowed 10 seconds faster than that.

6:38?

I have six sub-6:30 rows.

No need to worry.

Paul Siebach will beat your 55s lwt WR, probably by 5-10 seconds.

Rowing well (13 SPI) at low drag (120 df.), fully prepared, I will set the 60s lwt WR sometime this year, probably somewhere below 6:20, hopefully, 6:16.

Then you and Paul will have something to shoot for if you keep rowing in your 60s.

6:40 is not going to do it, though.

To beat the standard I set, you are going to have to be a _lot_ faster than that.

5-6 seconds per 500m.

Yea.

In my "Steamrollering" at 23 spm, 1:45 is a bit too much for me, if I am going to keep it up for 42K.

But I seem to be settling in nicely to 1:46 @ 23 spm (12.7 SPI).

I guess that will have to be good enough.

Stroke feels _amazing_ now, throughout.

For me, the secret to efficiency in this long rowing seems to be to throw emphasis into the middle of the stroke, when I stick my heels and then swing my back, with a little less energy expended on the catch and finish, as long as they are done in good form.

The big muscles in the legs, hams and glutes, seem to be the most efficient levers, and for me personally, my core is my strongest lever, relative to the others.

So, taken together, I am most efficient if I let the second and third beats of the drive do most of the work, while resting a bit on the first and fourth beats.

BTW, it is now _very_ easy to do 1:48.

1:46 is the norm.

If I can hold 1:46 @ 23 spm for 42K, that will be right on Matthias' Open lwt FM WR.

2:30

In the FM, I will be the best lwt of any age in the history of the sport!

I am very confused as to why an accomplished professor cannot plan to get away for one Saturday or Sunday in the fall for a demonstration of his OTW prowess at a head race... :P

Let's see : You a could have planned for a long weekend at the HOCR in Boston... but not the Head of the Ohio.. (?)
Your trolling gets weaker by the season, just like your OTW rowing...

Did you miss my multiple responses to this?

My intention, if I can pull it off, is to get away _every_ weekend, from 9/17 to 10/30 to do head races in and around Ann Arbor.

Because of other priorities, I just can't be certain whether this will be possible, or if I need to miss some weekends, which ones they will be.

My prowess?

Naw.

But the experience will be good for me.

If I can get away every weekend, that will be seven head races.

It might be nice to finish a race, at least.

Naw.

It isn't light here yet.

Sunrise here is now close to 6 a.m.

It is only 5:15.

I can't get out OTW until the sun comes up.

But when it is light, I will be heading out to train OTW, just like you.

What is your best time OTW for 500m?

Can you do sub-1:40, comparable to sub-1:25 OTErg?

1:40 is 8.5 SPI @ 41 spm

But as far as I can tell, there is nothing much at all very serious about veteran rowing.

I just do it in the early morning hours, to stay healthy and amused.

Almost everything else in my life is more serious that my rowing.

I do sports because they are fun.

Are you saying that you row for some other reason?
