I am hoping to get my Dad to row or Kayak with me in the Everglades challenge next year. It is put on by Watertribe.com if you want to check it out. He is okay with the alligators, sharks, and snakes, but the skeets and other bugs have him trembling . I believe we could do it but I know his immune system is what he is really worried about.
GO LUNA-TICS!!!!

I like that the prize is an alligator tooth on one of the challenge rounds for the Everglade Challenge. Website doesn't mention who they would be extracting the tooth from....300 miles in 8 days is a long haul even when being chased by alligators, sharks and whatever else might be in the waters...be careful when you portage...

Danno's surgery is scheduled for 15 August....Tuesday....keep those positrons going his way !

Right you are, Baz! Rowing is great way to manage many aspects of life!

Image Last day of week 2 ! Get those meters in ! Congratulations to our junior rowers: Ashlee, Kaylee, Mario and Tris for getting their meter goals done for the second week in a row. Amazing stuff!

There are some who have finishing all the challenges throughout the year as one of their personal goals. I found myself with 3,000 m left to finish the 30K goal....tried to convince myself that it didn't matter if I didn't finish one of the weeks...right. Finished those meters before I went out the door this AM.

My bike helmet mirror saved me today. Really. Our cycling route for what I call Tour de Farm took us on some low volume, high speed rural roads. I saw snakes. Lots of snakes. Mostly dead snakes. Plenty of corn tassling out, sugar beets, soy beans, and cows. And this really big tanker truck that was riding the white line ... with no shoulder on the road. Those trucks make a lot of noise, and you try to ride pretty steady so you communicate what you as a cyclist are doing. No oncoming traffic, and he's still on the white line. Assessing that the tanker would pass within inches, I gave up the road for the cornfield. So use a mirror when you ride...could save you, too. We had 7 riders blow their tires on an elevated railroad crossing... I wasn't one of them. Sometimes these things happen in batches.

Looks like the roster is missing a few folks - let's hope it's a technical glitch!

Season meters as of 105/365 = 26,140,246 m

Total meters on the day = 401,230 m (this is a combo of yesterday and what has been done up thru evening today)

Oars in space (participation) = 33 percent

Prayers are going up for you today, Doctor Dan!

And glad to hear you made it through your ride intact, K2! Sounds real scary!

Congratulations to Benny, Francine, Gabby and Charles on your million meters rows! Way to go!

We were on our yearly backpack trip in the Cabinet Mountains (Montana) last week, and I was just too sore to pull off the needed meters to stay in the challenge. Best of luck to all you other amazing team mates who are still hanging in there!

Here's a pic of Ben near where we camped.

Great photo of Ben in The Wilderness, Kristine! Trading indoor erg meters for spectacular views, fabulous hikes...perfect choice! Rowing just one of our tools for keeping fit !

It's Week 3! 40 K meters! 8 K for the junior rowers!

Wowzer, we're getting up there in meter quantitites....have to plan to meet these kinds of numbers for your week 3 goals!

Total meters on the day = 117,757 m (remember that yesterday's numbers were captured late in day)

Oars in space (participation) = 16 percent

Image Another episode...jingles

Kristine's mention of the Cabinet Mountains started this Bunny Trail of the Mind. Wondered how the Cabinet Mountains got their name. Seems that French explorers thought the range reminded them of closets or cabinets. You can somewhat see that in the midsection of the photo below:
Image
Beautiful country! What sent me down the bunny trail further was that the closest town is Libby, MT - home to some of our teammates who sign on for the Holiday Challenge and beyond. No disrespect meant to Libby, MT - I was reminded of the commercial jingle....When it says Libby, Libby, Libby on the label, label, label....you will like it, like it, like it on your table, table, table.....now that jingle will be in your minds, too. Hahahaha.

Have a great day - and row some !
