Once RowPro is installed, you will click “control center” and then on Internet set up. That is where you “sign up” for the race.

When it is time to race, you will click on “session set-up” and then on the internet button. The race you signed up for in the previous step will show up 15 minutes before the scheduled race. The first time, I did start to panic because my race did not show up because I did not know it appears “just” before the race.

There is a "chat" button at the bottom of the "session set-up page.

Susan
Thanks for the company. It was fast for me. I appreciate the company and companionship of those who can and do go faster!

My computer kept crashing with the chat function. I don't know why.

Schenley did not get to join because we were full. I would LOVE to do this again tomorrow. AND if Schenley (and anyone else) wants to try out the software, we could set up a 2K today.

Susan

Well, I flunked Online Rowing 101. I don't whether the session was full. (How many to a session?) I think one of our problems was having a version of RowPro that was too old. The CD that came with our erg had ver 1.7. The dialog boxes were being really wierd - we couldn't read all the text in them (aobut 3/4 of the row of text would show) and we couldn't see some of the buttons that the text was telling us to push. Also, we only have the trial version, not the full version.

Anyway, I did the row with you in spirit. I managed to hold a pace averaging just under 2:38. However, I was on "just row" not countdown, so it didn't count my two brief water breaks.

I'm up for trying again, but if it's tomorrow, I won't be planning to do anything big. 10K was a distance record for me.

Schenley

The row was full. There were 8 participants. I am so glad you rowed "with us". Well done!!
You can go on-line to digitalrowing.com and download the latest version 2.0. It comes with the 10 free trials and an explaination of how to load/download etc. Plus a NEW view feature that I can't wait to try.
I am in for a row with you tomorow. Tell me the distance and the pace and I will set it up!
Susan

Hi,

I LOVED doing that 10K together like that! I can't join you tomorrow, but I would like to do that again sometime. It was so much more fun than doing a "solitary" row. Plus, even though the pace was not difficult for me to keep, it was faster than I would go if I had done it alone. One of my training partners is always teasing me about "birdwatching" out the window while I row! So it was good to do something a little faster than a normal easy row.

I had downloaded the new RowPro version and put it on broadcast view and that was fun too! The camera angles kept changing between the leader, our little group and the ends of our boats. Great diversion!

I have always felt really stressed every time I have raced online with RowPro because I am always way behind, even though all the men that I have ever done online races with were very nice about it. It is really nice to find some people to just do easier rows with, or perhaps we could do some races at some point, which would be fun also because we are more likely to be closer in speed than some of the hard-core RowPro users.

Shannon

Well, a full row would explain why it "disappeared." Jeff said that he had seen it in a list, but then it was gone.

We could try a 30 min row tomorrow at about 2 p.m. MST. That would be 4 p.m. for you. As for pace, I'll probably start at 2:40 and drop by 2 or 3 seconds each 1000 m. (2:40, 2:38, etc). Does that sound good to you?

We have downloaded 2.0 now. What's the new feature? Of course, I don't know the old ones. LOL.

Schenley

Schenley,

Sorry you weren't able to make it into our 10k session. It was indeed full when you showed up. But great work doing it solo!

I would be up for another session tomorrow or anytime, too. If Susan Holladay or you set one up, I will join. We can try to walk you through it, if you have troubles. Come on to the chat 5 min or so before and we'll see what we can do. By the way, if you are just running the demo version, you can just leave it running in the background for a few days so you don't use up all your 10 trial uses. Every time you start the program is one trial use.

- Krysta

I have to run out the door (I am already late).
so i can't set up the race until I get home tonight. But I am up for 2 PM mountain/4PM Eastern/21 GMT.

Krysta, I tried to set up a race and it had a time but it was AM/PM Was it still GMT???

Gotta run. I'll get in when I get back in three hours!! But I am looking forward to tomorrow. We would need to calculate a distance based on that pace for an approximate 30 minute row. Can do when I get home. If someone else wants to let me know.

Susan

We can just set it up as a 30 minute row. There is that option, rather than a distance. Then we all finish at the same time, even if there are differences in speed. I will set it up, if you want. 2 PM mountain/4PM Eastern/21 GMT it is. I will call it "30min_Duck_Row".

OK. I think I'm registered (Evaluation User). I'll be able to get set up earlier tomorrow. Today I didn't get home until 10 min before the start. (I sort of forgot about the kid's gymnastics class when I signed up.)

We looked into trying ver 2.0, but it also wanted to install something for Microsoft .NET. Jeff isn't too keen on that because he hates program bloat. He tries to keep his laptop really clean and efficient because he uses it for audio capture. We'll see what happens when the trial uses run out.

Schenley

Krysta and Susan, thanks for rowing again so that I could try the online rowing. It was very motivating to have other boats to look at. (Much better view than the inside of my garage. LOL) However, I must admit that I spent most of the second half just looking at my monitor and trying to keep that estimated distance above 5800 m. I did glance over regularly to make sure I still had my threesome.

8) Have a nice day!

Schenley

Jeff took a picture partway through. :D

After that, I kicked the spectators out.

Thanks for posting the picture!

I row more efficiently without my little spectator too. To get in and out of the room Danae has to time my movement up and down the slide and I have to pull my elbows in. Fortunately she has good timing. We only collide once in a while.

I used the new broadcast view. Pretty neat. I especially like the shot of the bow of the boat on the water line. I don't think the view would be all that fun if everyone were very spread out. But having the three of us rowing together was fun.

What I enjoy most is rowing with others. Much more fun than rowing in solitary confinement all the time. So I am up for a companionable row anytime. Just send an email.

One day as I get more fit, I wil try racing/rowing companionably at a faster pace. But for now the pace of 2:30 is all I can do at the longer distances.

I had fun. Thanks.

I couldn't get the chat function to show up. I also couldn't switch out of PR. I think the "chat" was there in the background. I just couldn't access it.

Susan

The garage has its pros and cons, but there is plenty of room on the sides. Jeff did have to time it to cross over to the other side for the picture.

Schenley
Hi

Glad to see so many women on rowpro. I've been pretty inactive for the last 2 months due to ski holidays and flu's. Now it's time to pick up where I left in December when I went down with a flu for the first time this season.

I'll be in pretty bad shape at first, but maybe I can join you in a few weeks time? :-) Would be fun to row together.

/Anna
