My first demonstration of my fitness will be a FM @ 1:48 OTErg.

The 60s lwt FM WR is 2:00 pace.

That should make a point, no?

ranger
No.

see: I agree with you...

The Head of the Charles is in 3 months... you need "fitness" that can be demonstrated on the water now...

Mike--

At 13 SPI, you can only rate 20 spm for 5K OTErg, if that.

There is a big gap between 20 spm and 30 spm.

That gap is a matter of fitness.

In terms of pace, it's 13 seconds per 500m.

1:50 vs. 1:37

No reason to test my fitness OTW at the moment.
So we'll dismiss what you've been
saying in order to let you hide in your basement?

So, that's all she wrote in terms of technique.

Now I just have to build up my consistency with it over the next couple of years.

If I can just get out OTW and rate 25 spm for an hour or two each day, stroking that well, it's curtains for my 60s competition
(snip)
I put in a nice 12K OTW today, after a similar amount OTErg.

I need to build that up to 20K of each.

Did you even send in an entry request for the HOCR? I still doubt it...
Prove me wrong by answering the following question:

How many digits are there in your HOCR.org confirmation code? :P

Mike--

We both have our crosses to bear.

But they aren't the same crosses.

Good luck with yours.

I continue to work on mine.

My fitness is maximal.

Sure, that can be demonstrated.

No need, though, as long as it's there.

I am rowing hard, 25K a day.

In August, I'll slowly push that up to 40K a day.

20K OTErg just before dawn, 20K OTW just after dawn.

I should be able to get some good long continuous pieces done down at Kangaroo Lake--in perfect conditions.

http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safa ... CBYQ8gEwAA

I can record the pieces on my new NK XL2, when it arrives.

Kangaroo Lake is 4K, north to south, 10K around the perimeter.

Open water, like a racecourse.

It's about ten times as big as Europe Lake.

6-12 feet deep

Clean, spring-fed water

No vegetation

Hi Prof. I hope your wife enjoyed your week off from this forum.

Have you figured out yet how to get past the 5k mark at your FM pace?

Oh, and congrats on what I believe to be a new FM vPB: 1:44/500m is truly remarkable!

So, you're not learning to row any more, are you? Sure, you might be improving something (though if it's not your fitness, and it's not your technique, I'm not sure what it is), but you've already learned to row.

I am not improving my technique?

Over the last couple of years, it looks as though I have become 10 seconds per 500m faster at the same rate.

That sounds like a _gigantic_ learning curve to me.

There is also this: Besides a couple of days in Learn to Scull, almost ten years ago now, in which I couldn't even take a stroke, I have never had a lesson, never had a coach, never rowed on a team, never gone to a rowing "camp," never had any expert video analysis of my rowing, never successfully completed a race, etc.

So, even though I might row pretty well, I am sure that there are _all sorts_ of things that I am doing wrong.

I suspect it is these things that are slowly being ironed out, as I am getting faster and faster OTW.

But how would _I_ know?

I'll get some video of my rowing and maybe someone can tell me, perhaps a little 1:54 @ 28 spm, just show off.

Some feedback on the results of my self-coaching might be useful at this point.

Yep. Should be fun. See you there. As I mentioned, my plan is to arrive a week early and row on the Charles for six or seven days in order to get used to the venue.
