In those situations, the participants are usually aware of which lanes are favored. It makes for some interesting politics in the assignment of lanes. I would assume that the most equitable method would be a blind drawing. I have heard that it is often done on the basis of placement in earlier heats, but how do they assign the lanes in the initial heats?

FISA Rule 61 By-law:

Bye-Law [sic] to Rule 61 - Determining the Lanes (Normal Conditions)

1. Where appropriate the Executive Committee of FISA shall appoint a Seeding Committee for
a particular event. The purpose of seeding is to avoid having all the faster boats in an event
being drawn into the same heat in the first round. The Seeding Committee will apply criteria
determined by the Executive Committee and published in advance.
2. For the heats (or final where there are no heats), a draw shall be held to determine the lane
to be occupied by each crew except where the crews have been seeded. Any seeded crews shall
be drawn in lanes such that there are unseeded crews on both sides of the seeded crews. There
shall be a random draw for the order of the heats so that the highest seeded crew is not always
in heat 1. The seeding order shall only affect the placing of crews in the heats, it shall not be
taken into account for any of the later rounds of competition.
3. For the repêchages, semi-finals and finals, the principle is to put the crews with the best
placings in their previous round in the inner lanes. Similarly the crews with the lower placings
in their previous round are put in the outer lanes. If the crews have the same placings in the
heats, repêchages or semi-finals then there shall be a draw to determine their lanes in the next
round.

I have rowed 1.200 km on the Dynamic.
I am very satisfied with it. It is very much like the onwater rowing. More so than the D or E model.
In my experience with a D rower, which I only tested, it took 10 to 20 cm's of pulling before you really feel the resistance.
Th e Dynamic however gives resistance as soon as you start pulling: just like the catch in a boat.
(I also row regularly in a skiff).

It is also puts less strain on your back compared to a D rower.

Just one remark though: because of the fact that the air brake is underneath you you will feel an intensive air flow over the left side of your body. During long rows (in my case over 5.000 meters, which I usually do) your muscles on your left side cool down to much.
That is why I recently mounted a shield over the air brake: not directly on the air brake but as high as possible to deflect the air. This has solved the problem to my satisfaction.

So: all in all I am very satisfied with the Dynamic rower.

Concept 2 sent me the new wind shield free of charge and will send one to anyone who has the Dynamic that did not get one. They recently started adding this to the package for the Dynamic. It is a simple piece of plastic that inserts into the top opening of the fan housing. This does impact the drag factor and the settings need a little tweaking after installation but nothing big.

BTW, still enjoying my Dynamic after about 1.2 million meters since the first of May.

Hello,

adoring the C2 monitors and selecting hotels for business trips on availability of a C2 erg, but having bought an O. slider at a point in time when C2 didn't had a dynamic erg, I tried to adapt a PM4 monitor. IT DOES NOT WORK:
1) the C2 monitors read out magnetically
2) the O. slider monitor reads out optically - it is NOT possible to just change the cable!
3) there is not sufficient room in the flywheel housing to adapt the C2 system without additional changes

It might be that on O's prototypes, they either used both systems in parallel, or started with C2 monitor, however, the final design does not allow easy adaption of a PM4. I stopped trying to fit the PM4 as I had to disasemble the flywheel bearings...
If somebody either has an O. slider service manual (which would give me more convidence to pursue further) or has successfully managed to get a C2 monitor working on the slider, please let me know!
