Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
Mike---
BTW, I'll get you some video of my present sculling.
You can see what you think and hold forth about it.
Sure, I still have quite bit to work on.
I can still get _waaaay_ better.
But, sheesh, I am now a good as you--at least.
Your best at the Head of the Charles is what, 2:03 @ 26 spm?
O.K.
I'll get you a video of some 2:03 @ 26 spm OTW.
That's easy.

I am old. They are young.
Does it mean that you row poorly?
Or does it mean it you can't rate up?
Yea, there is no competition for you in the 55s division.mikvan52 wrote:The question you fail to answer is why no American 58 year old lwt is faster than me on the water....
All of your tough competition is already 60.
You can't beat the 60s guys at all.
They waste you right and left, both OTErg and OTW.

Yesterday I posted this:
http://www.row2k.com/results/resultspag ... 9249&cat=2
read the result of the age group of the 55-64 age group.
It includes two rowers IN THEIR 60s who, a few weeks later, finished very high at the HOCR.... (Meyer and Dietz)
You should retract your ignorant assertion above.
I have also beaten Anderson every time I've faced him...
You do not know what you are talking about and are unwilling to learn...

Why post last year's results yesterday?

Mike--
You'll have _much_ better guys than Dietz, Meyer, and Anderson to face at the Head of the Charles this year.
You're not up to facing those guys at all.
They'll wipe your ass.
And then, when you are 60, Dietz, Meyer, and Anderson will all have big handicaps for you to overcome--from now until forever.
How will you overcome their handicaps, when you are not even better than they are, straight up?

Any over trained novice can erg-stroke his way to 2:03 pace for a few strokes.
You can see my current condition in my blog .. yesterday it was 25 spm at 2:08.3 pace avg for 5k... and I will never say that I row perfectly on or off the water, as you do...

I won't.
I go the HOCR every year I'm healthy and some years when I'm not. I "face those guys" every chance I get.
I count Dietz, Meyer, Anderson as friends... They don't rely on handicaps to be considered fast for their age-group.
I suggest you follow their example.
Can you honestly say that you've entered the lottery for a spot in this year's race?
If you get in and row I think you'll find little of the puerile trash-talking you and I engage in here Many, many scullers have been at it for years and don't need to say "wipe your ass" and such.
BTW: I'm so old, I don't have much of an ass left, anyway.
Hope to see your promised video. I know you can become faster on the water and wish you well in that.
Re: Ranger's training thread
BTW, the Elkart video of my erging is the best 2K OTErg by a 52-year-old ( or older) lightweight, before or since, even though, two weeks later, I was 3.5 seconds better, and six months later, I was 5.5 seconds better.
We'll see, I guess, but now, with my better technique, rowing well (13 SPI) at low drag (120 df.), fully prepared, eight years later, I think I will be 17.5 seconds better.
In rowing, technique makes a big difference.

You won't "get some video", because you've stopped publishing any videos of your rowing or erging because you don't like the amount of piss taking that comes when we see that your tasered chicken anchor hauling (hasn't changed since 2003) and your crashing and swimming from your boat hasn't improved either.
Re: Ranger's training thread
As usual you didn't answer my question in your reply. I asked why you have been claiming to do a FM any day now for about 4 years. You claim it's because you want to be sure your technique is correct.
That's fine. Nothing wrong with good technique, even though you still have nothing resembling good technique after 8 years of dicking with it. But for 4 years you've been saying your technique is fixed, and that you're now ready to start the FM trials.
So let's try this again. How can you be ready for FM trials, with fixed technique, about 100 times the past few years, and still have never done a FM? I can see if you had always maintained that you were still working on technique, but that clearly is not true.
I think we all know the real answer. On many occasions you have set off at 1:48 pace, made it about 2k and realized you were already extremely fatigued, quit, then decided a little more tinkering with technique will allow you to continue on for another 40k at the same pace.
I believe you promised a video recently of your now perfect erg technique. When you post this video why don't you make it 2k worth of strokes at 1:48/24? I'd love to see a few minutes of what this incredible WR will look like.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Gorgeous 10K down at Europe Lake, just after dawn, after 20K OTErg, just before dawn.
Perfect conditions.
No wind.
70 degrees F.
I was the only one there.
Hey.
In good conditions, I now do a nice 2:00 @ 26 spm, not 2:03 @ 26 spm.
That's pretty much my OTW goal: 10 MPS @ 8 SPI.
Better catches and finishes.
OTW, I am right around 10 seconds per 500m better at the same rate than I was a couple of years ago.
My learning curve is getting _very_ steep.
I'll post some video of some of my OTW rowing at 26 spm over the next week so you can see what you think.
30K of rowing today, all done before 9 a.m.
What is so great up here in Door County is that you can just roll into the water and swim after each row.
I swam a half mile or so in the big lake after my erg session.
I swam a quarter of a mile or so at Europe Lake after my OTW session.
Both lakes are very clean and clear.
The water termperature in both lakes is probably in the high 60s.
Perfect.
Not cold.
Just refreshing.

Wow, it takes ranger over a year (and counting) to post some video! No wonder it's taken him half a decade or more to not do 1:48 for a FM - that's much harder than posting some video.Ranger wrote:July 7, 2010: I'll post some video of my OTW rowing over the next couple of days.

Notice the difference.
Two years ago, I was posting video of 2:10 @ 26 spm.
Last year, I was going to post some video of 2:05 @ 26 spm.
Now, I am ready to post some video of 2:00 @ 26 spm.

Today, I was doing some 2:01 @ 23 spm in my Fluid.
Wow.
Even at 15 seconds over erg times, about the best anyone can do, that's the equivalent of 1:46 @ 23 spm OTErg, a neat little 12.6 SPI.
