More welcomes...

Sometimes on what can start as a disappointing day, the most amazing things happen! Not content to just watch Tour de France, our man in Calais decided to buzz us! Welcome to the 2012 Rowing Season, Rocket Man !

Image

And not only that, but one of our novice rowers (how long does one stay a novice?! maybe a week?) added a bunch of meters - good rowing Carolyn! Plus Joel M joined up also.

We are an open team - and people come and they go. And sometimes they arrive and leave as many as six or seven times in a rowing season.... and that's okay....maybe their lunar affiliation gets blasted into smithereens by their computer connection? Since our lunar mission (to the moon and now back) is so based on amount of meters as a percentage of the distance we have to travel, we're always delighted to have MORE meters. No team likes to have less. So if our progress chart looks a bit less than linear from time to time, we'll chalk it up to the vagaries of team space travel. Vagaries...what a good word!

Image

Who knew what strange stuff this virtual space travel would be? ! It's all good!

But I hope that yellow jacket that stung me paid a price...that part of the day was not good.

Leaving tomorrow for a little over two weeks of vacation. First stop: Utah, so my husband's family can finally meet our daughter (who is now 7 months old) then on to Washington to visit my family. Those August meters are going to be tough after having a few weeks off... not to mention that I've cut down on rowing the past few weeks since Adam and I started taking a fencing class once a week (en garde!). See ya in two weeks!

Have a great and safe trip, Mary! Fencing is so fun and so challenging! Hope you two keep with it. I took my first fencing classes a few years ago. Had to stop due to cost, but hope to get back into it after the kids are out of the house, if not before.

It seems most of the nasty weather hits the est side of Phoenix. I'm on the west side we just got some high winds 58 mph or so. I work east of downtown and the building has dock doors that don't close so the afternoon crew inside the building got dusted off pretty good. The big concern is Valley Fever. Its a fungus in the soil that eats holes in your lungs or infects other various organs and bones, pretty nasty stuff. It can take better that a year to get over it. Strange stuff, didn't have that up north, but no snow down here just 100 degree weather. congrats to all those new milestones and a new challenge I need that. To the moon!! OOPS, been there done that need a new catch phrase.... To the Earth!!! don't sound right ...hmmmm.. any ideas?

Row on !!?

Was just looking at the various and assorted photographs of our wonder-years team members ...

Today's post...well, I was going to do it, but found I couldn't type very well this AM. I was stung on the hand and woke up to find that my hand resembled one of those latex gloves filled with air. Visit to the doc was in order...and now am full of Benadryl and stuff. Will catch up with the posting tomorrow - well, later today, actually.

Hope you avoid Valley Fever, Mitch - although I hear that if you've lived in AZ for a year, you've already had it.

and Just27...knowing you are a great movie fan...how about roing to Crocodile Dundee tomorrow...we'll be stopping at the Walk About pub..the one and only from the movie!

@Bazz: Happy to hear that you're surviving your walkabout (okay, driveabout), pythons notwithstanding.

Ever compliant, I went to Netflix to download Crocodile Dundee, and was surprised to find it's not in their instant-watch list. No way I can find that for tomorrow's row (or, maybe my today if the 14 hours difference was your yesterday's tomorrow ...!) so will just have to have a Foster's instead, and imagine y'all at the Walk About (pub, that is, not quest). I look forward to the pictures.

Memorable movie quote:
Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee, to New Yorker girl:
"I don't mean to put down your black widow spider, but the funnelweb spider can kill a man in eight seconds, just by lookin' at him."
