LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Re: Lunar Landing Graphic
I've been checking out Zazzle and Cafe Press re: the lunar graphic. I was going to put it on a tee shirt and see if anyone else was interested in one. So far, Cafe Press seems like a bit better choice because there are many kinds of shirts to choose from. If it is easier to just send those interested the graphic so that you can design whatever you like, I'm good with that too.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Tomorrow morning, I'm having a tonsillectomy and septoplasty. I'm trying to maintain 10k a day, so I stored up a few extra meters over the past couple of weeks to compensate for a few days off. It may seem silly to others that I care so much about my ranking on the annual honors board, but it works for me. What can I say? I'm competitive and I love numbers. The marriage of a good exercise machine to social networking is a fantastic idea. This morning, I dropped under 300 pounds for the first time in several years. So far, I've lost 47 pounds since I received my rowing machine in August last year. My next goal is to get to 280 which I hope to do before the start of the Fall Challenge.
Although I don't post much, I read all the posts every day and enjoy the community. Looks like I'll be relegated to watching others rack up meters over the next few days. In the meantime, I'm going to rest my body a bit and get ready to tear into the rest of the summer. Keep up the good work everyone. Eat something spicy and scratchy for me as I'll be drinking broth and smoothies for a bit.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Quick update - Everything went well today with my surgery. I arrived at 8 am and my wife, Jill, drove me home at 1 pm. One part of the procedure was correcting a deviated septum. Even with the packing in my nose, I can breathe through my nose better than I remember for years. Should only get better over the next 10 days as the packing dissolves. The nurse told me that I was her best adult patient post-tonsillectomy surgery, which I took to mean that I had the highest pain tolerance. They actually gave me morphine which didn't seem like it did much. She said something about having to stay longer if I needed any more medication in my IV. Magically, I decided that I wasn't in too much pain anymore.
A couple few weeks ago, I broke down and bought a Vitamix blender. Yes, I'm embarrassed to say that I was willing to spend about $500 on a blender, but I truly love it. We got our first gas grill about 6 weeks ago and are finding that the grill and blender have made it very easy for us to change our eating lifestyle. So far, we've made homemade: hummus, guacamole, salsa, smoothies, soups, and the equivalent consistency of soft serve ice cream. Today, I made some smoothies, ice cream, and soup that made my day just a little bit better than it would've been otherwise. I'm sure it's not necessary to buy such an expensive blender in order to make these things, but I have an admitted weakness for nice tools (especially woodworking).
In case anyone wondered, I did sneak in a light 10k row on an empty stomach and no water afterward before my surgery this morning. I think I'm going to ask my wife to hid a key part of the erg so I'm not tempted to get back on too soon. I think I have a sickness.

Happy to hear that you sailed through your surgery and are feeling good. Best wishes for a continued speedy recovery. The VM is amazing. I had one of the stainless models with a spigot, years ago, and even ground wheat kernels in it, then made bread in the same container. I lost track of the VM years ago, but still have the wheat-to-bread recipe, if you're feeling Little House on the Prairie-ish!BigBrett58 wrote:Quick update - Everything went well today with my surgery ... ... Brett, so glad to hear you came through your surgery okay, and way to go on your weight loss - wowzer! I bought my first Vitamix way back in 1987 - one of those metal canister ones Minnie is talking about - but it got stolen, and so Keith bought me another one in 1993 to replace it. We still have it, and use it all the time. So don't feel too bad about buying one high dollar blender - at least you have not bought two of them!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 6.14.11
An episode...
This past weekend was the first weekend this year that Trail Ridge Road was opened to traffic. Since many of you may never see this one, thought I'd share some photos, etc. Trail Ridge is the highest continuous paved motorway in the US, and is located in Rocky Mountain National Park. Snowpack is/was about 250 percent normal this year, and drifts up to 23 ft deep lined the roadway less than one month ago. The roadway is the only direct route between Estes Park on the east side of RMNP and Grand Lake on the west side of RMNP. There are parts of the roadway where the elevation exceeds 12,000 ft. It's a gentle grade, but there are some saddles where the road drops off sharply on each side. Knuckle biters. For bicyclists, I think there are two US bike rides that are rated as very difficult routes, and I believe both are in Colorado. One is Trail Ridge Road. I'm SURE cyclists tackling the route must row in their off season...just to have enough oxygen to pedal the roadway!
For those that are trying to get a glimpse of where we are in space as we head back to Earth , one of the things that's noted about RMNP is that while two thirds of the world's population can't see the Milky Way from their locations due to light pollution, and because they live at elevations where the atmosphere reflects that light... Trail Ridge Road, and points of destination in the RMNP, are noted for great views of the night sky. In fact, some of our visitors to the Grand Lake area have looked up at the summer night sky and not realized that they are looking at the Milky Way and its billions and billions of stars. It's good stuff !
RMNP
Saw five cyclists in the space of one hour
Huge snowcutters plow through the roadway - you'll often see tree parts sticking out of the sides of the snowbanks that literally line the roadway. What do you think? Maybe 10 feet high?
Fox near RMNP - it was a stop the car...gotta take a photo moment... left photo bigger since many never get to see these up close...
Elk in RMNP...herds are fairly protected...there are a LOT of garden-eating elk out there....

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Wow, Baz, I've got something like an alien living in my chest cavity as well, but I am slowly recovering from it - so far without a doctor's visit or antibiotics. I think it was brought on by the heavy doses of pine pollen we are flooded with around this time of year.
Great pics, K2! Thanks for sharing! Here's one from the David Thompson Columbia Brigade launching this morning. I brought a basket of my white doves to release as they headed out. It was cool, but I didn't get a good picture of it.
