Sadly, this is not a good thing.

QUOTE(agnes @ Jan 31 2006, 11:27 AM)

Hello!

Hoping to fit into my mother's wedding dress for my own wedding in September...need to loose about 25 pounds or the seamstress will have a lot of extra work. Lots of rowing ahead of me...but I'm also concerned about my shoulders getting bigger and too broad. Perhaps if I set the rower on 1 I'll get the exercise, but not bulk up? Any suggestions appreciated!
Agnes

If your goal is to lose 25 pounds, I don't think you'll have a problem. I know before I started rowing, I was a scrawny little thing and rowing eventually gave me more back/lat muscles which did result in my going up a bra size (around, not cup). And I did have a guy say he'd never given a massage to a chick with wings (as a good thing). So, I would think that the potential for added muscle (which will just be from developing muscles that women typically don't work) will be balanced by the weight you're going to lose. Regarding the resistance setting, I wouldn't bring it down to 1 if you've been using something else because I don't think you'd get enough of a workout to meet your weight loss goal.

I do also have to add that it took me awhile to get to the point where I had to get larger bras (maybe a year or two) and since I was competitve rowing, I was lifting weights (lots of bench pulls) and was on the water probably an average of 2 hours a day. I never got "bulky" even with all that. I agree with everyone else that the definition, strength, etc. is much more of a plus.

Aiko

This is ironic.
Guys wish rowing gave'm bigger muscles and it seems some women wish it didn't.
