"Best bet for that might be Google Maps ( http://maps.google.com ) or Google Earth ( http://earth.google.com/ ) Google Earth in particular is a fascinating way to spend a rainy day - at least the part not spent rowing.... " ...snip (I haven't figured out quoting on this board yet.)

In that vein, my husband, my sons and I have all set virtual destinations. We are travelling along the google roads using erg meters, biking distances, conversion miles for gymnastics and Curves, etc. We just started, but watching your progress is good motivation. Everyone except my littlest is ahead of me.

Schenley

Fowl Play now has almost 70 members! It's amazing how the team has grown.

I hope everyone's enjoying the challenge. I find I am thinking of rowing all the time now. Too bad my muscles keep reminding me how tired they are.

I almost hate to admit this, but I row in front of the tv . I have made a semi-rule for myself about only watching tv while I'm rowing. I used to listen to music, when I didn't have access to a tv while rowing, but I really prefer having a quiet room to enjoy music in.

As someone noted in another post...

If you think you are on Fowl Play, but you do not see the TEAMS button on your log page, PLEASE PM ME. It means you did not get added to the team, but I can and will add you now.

Keep up the great rowing!

Emilia
Hi Emilia

You should be getting an email from Ben about joining Fowl Play--I recruited him via an old friend I just reconnected with--kind of a strange coincidence but I take it as a good omen.

I figure if I can't do the big distances I can at least try to add team members!

Off to do some more rowing....

Laurie

Mt. I am thinking about that.. trying to find a map of the Hudson River marked off in Meters. Think it has measured stops laid out, I have to look that up.

Happy rowing!

I came back from my trip (lots of stress, too much sugar to keep going), staggered into the house, kissed the dog, scratched the cats, waved to my husband (like my priorities?) and hopped on the rower. Now it's 5000 meters and lots of sweat later (still warm in SWFL), and I may have made up for one of the many donuts that became my major food group for the last few days. If I don't eat something green soon, I may become one giant zit and at my age, that just ain't attractive.

Go Fowl Play!

Wendy

Way to go Wendy!

I just got home from work and I just don't want to row.
Sigh. I worked 15 hours yesterday so I didn't row because there were too few hours before I had to get up and do it again. Today was stressful. My neck is tight and my jaw hurts. I got home an hour ago. Just got my daughter to bed and I am in my easy chair reading emails.

I a trying to get into a daily exercise habit. But it is so easy to not row "just tonight." Which then turns into several "just tonights" in a row.

I am grateful for the team and the challenge because as soon as I hit send I will go down and put my oar in. Thanks for rowing with me!!

Susan

The massage was great, too, anybody in the Westchester County area, check out Riverspa, the masseuse to see is named Ari. She does Sports massage.

Now I' feel good for a 7K tomorrow!

Rubber Ducky

I crawl out of bed in the dark, put on my "fits on your head with a plastic band" light to find my way to the basement, and wake up on the Erg. (Of course, I keep two sets of Jammies going so I can launder them at night.)

Whatever works though... I know how tough it is trying to work full-time AND row AND cook, clean, etc. etc.

Totally agree about the team.. and this wonderful posting board.. to keep me going.

Rubber Ducky.

I get up at 6, row at 7, shower at 8 and by 9 I'm ready to start my day. I also only row 6 days out of 7. I was told the body needs a break, so I don't row Wednesdays. Right now I'm trying to row 7500 a day, but some days I only do 6000 and at the weekend I like to do 10,000. But the 7-8 slot is reserved for rowing. There's really no excuse when I have that hour reserved. And yes, I still get up at 6am on weekends!

Tina

Totally agree that setting a regular time is important, that way it becomesa routine.

Glad you said that about the day's break.. today I am tired and taking a day off from rowing. I hate to do that because of the challenge, but read in another forum that it's as IMPORTANT to take a day off and rest your muscles as it is to row.

I feel better now knowing I'm not the ONLY one up at that unGodly hour of the morning... have been considering buying one of those "S.A.D. natural light visors" to wear to help wake myself up in a better mood, but they cost SO MUCH money. Wonder if they're any different than a "Natural LIght Spectrum" lightbulb. Has anyone ever heard of these? http://www.sadlight.com/

I was away for 4 days but I'm back, and added my 9k for today. If I can swing it, I'll row an 18k this weekend, better chance on Sunday than Saturday.

Margaret

I have a sleep disorder that necessitates bright light in the morning to set my internal clock daily.

So far, I'm liking it. I found the visor it came with to not be tight enough to stay in place at all. I put it on a cap I got at work that had a pretty shallow head-bowl. By making it really tight and using a pony-tail to keep it in place, it works pretty well (leaves a line across my forehead though ). I haven't actually tried it while rowing yet, but I plan to eventually.

I've also found that it helps to have other lights on around you otherwise the visor lights shining in your eyes will completely blind you.

I did get a headache the first time I used it, I think because of all the cap/visor adjustments I was making while trying it out, but I haven't had any problems with it since then.

Mischa

I remember seeing them first on an old episode of NORTHERN EXPOSURE, and thought they were just a fantasy then, but now I see they have some "standalone" small units on sale at Costco. Think since I get up so early, the visor would be better.

Clever adjustments you made, if the one I get is too big I'll try to fit it (but not too tight).

Also thanks for the intriguing looking book quote; I'll have to pick it up. Right now I'm re-reading White Oleander, by Fitch. Its such a fabulous book, regret they ever chopped it up for a glitzy movie.

Happy rowing! Rubber Ducky
