Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
2,000m 6:52.3.
1st 500 was 1:40.9, so kind of a fly-and-die, but still 2 seconds better than previous PB.

@mike: Below 7', the improvements sure seem to be tough to achieve and every second you shave hurts a lot. Congratulations on the PB!

I guess the 10 day layoff to rest the foot paid off. I did a 1k my first day back and lowered my PB by 1' to 3:23.8
Then today was my best accomplishment to date! I did 8020m for the 30' and got to the 93rd percentile.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Back on April 26 I experimented with some short sprints and was able to get down to 32.2 for 200m (R48). Haven't erged since then, but got to thinking that based on the formulas, I should be able to crack 1:30 for 500m. My previous PB was over 1:35...it was the final 500 in an interval set and I've never tried an all-out 500 on its own.
Set out with little strategy other than to pull 20 very hard strokes out of the gate and then look at the monitor to see where I was. Got to 250 remaining at average of 1:26 and thought 'Oh sh*t I'm in trouble, will never be able to hold this'. Backed off for about 10 strokes to about 1:29-1:30, then dropped the hammer as best I could for the final 100m. That's not a pleasant experience, although it's over quickly so not so bad.
Finished at 1:26.4/r36. Very happy with a 9 second PB

Man, that's fast! And cutting 9 seconds off your previous PB. That's is monumental on a 500. Congratulations!

Good one, Greg! What do you use to get that data?gregsmith01748 wrote:New PB for Half Marathon - Finally!

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks Bob.
RowPro stroke data saved as a CSV file, then plotted in excel.
It took a little work to figure out the conversion formulae for the pace because the time seems to be logged in accumulated milliseconds.
Then I added lines for my calculated AT, TR, and AN Heart rates based on the formulas that the UK folks use in the Interactive 2K training plan. I like those because they are based on Heart Rate Range instead of just the MaxHR, so as your resting HR goes down the bands change a bit.
If you want, I could email you the spreadsheet. I think the Suunto SW and maybe the Garmin can generate these kinds plot auto-magically, but this way I get to spend more time savoring the sweet taste of this PB.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks, Greg. I am pleased to see that RowPro does store all those details. The plots that come up on the RP page have the time as logarithmic, and I am unable to access the raw data. I contacted Peter about my problem in trying to access the RP data files and he sent a nice message giving me all the steps needed to make the necessary changes. Unfortunately, the procedure was far beyond my limited computer capabilities, so I gave up on it. At the time (last fall) he said that they were going to change their system to one that would not give me that problem and that he expected to have it by the end of the year. However, I haven't heard anything more about it. Meanwhile, I used RP a number of times for its pace boat feature and was very disappointed to find the it is not at all reliable. I can stay ahead of the pace boat for the whole piece, end up as being several seconds ahead, and yet show a considerably slower average pace on the record. I posted that on another thread a few days ago.gregsmith01748 wrote:

On a later piece I held as steady a pace as I could at the pace boat setting. As can be seen in this screenshot, the pace boat (QP) and the "me" boat both have 2:22.0 pace and yet the pace boat is shown as 14 seconds back. It was a 30' row, so that is 0.78% off. My distance was 6337, so it would have been 49 meters back. That would put the pace boat at a pace of 2:23.1 instead of the 2:20 to which it was set.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I was stumped about how to get stroke data out of rowpro, and I sent them an email.
Turns out if you right-click on an entry of the rowing log, you get a menu that includes an "export entry".
One of the choices you get from that is "export row as CSV".
The output file is a bit confusing. There is a summary of the whole row up top, then the stroke data, which is a log stroke by stroke of the watts, pace, SPM, accumulated meters and accumulated time. Then at the bottom, there is a summary by split in the same format as the stroke data.

The very first step throws me off. There is no "right click" on the Mac mouse.
As I said, Peter did explain to me in detail what was wrong and what I had to do to correct it, but it was much more involved than the procedure you described.

Thanks for the tip. I've been using macs for over 20 years and I had never caught on to that.gregsmith01748 wrote:The equivalent on the mac is generally ctrl-click.

I never knew it until my wife got a mac and she needed that function for a program she was using at work. Google to the rescue! "How do i do a right click on a mac" yielded 29 million hits.
