As the new season starts, I'm ready to recommit after a month and a half break. It was just one of those "something's gotta give" things and I was feeling like rowing was an obligation (to myself, but still an obligation) rather than fun. I'm ready to hit it again.

Britt on the other hand will be dropping from the team. He was really just tossing his meters our way and not into the team thing, but his rowing is on hold for now and asked that I remove him from the roster so he doesn't show up as a big fat zero on our lists, which I will do.

Now, off to row on the first day of the new season!

John (7,025), Cindy (11,131) & Fred (12,526) put up meters before the end of the season, but after the last stat capture. Every meter of our team's 43,362,264 was an important part of our total fitness! So, great going!

Sounds good Izzz.

Our erg is broken...old and broken, kinda like my body. I think I may replace it, the erg not my body, with a SkiErg. Anyone here try one? How does it compare to rowing?

Welcom to the team, Mardix! Chris H uses a ski erg. Don't know if he checks the forum regularly. Here is a recent post of his; you can PM him from that.

Ron, I tried the SkiErg in Boston while I was there. The handles were a little bit awkward, it was a bit too easy to cheat by doing an incomplete stroke, but overall a good machine & a good workout. Also, the sides of the "optional" (if you don't want to screw the SkiErg into the wall) $200 frame were a bit close to my arms, and I was nervous about slamming in to them while doing a downward stroke when tired.
I still wouldn't REPLACE the erg, I'd repair it. The parts are cheap, the instructions are clear and easy and available, and the machines last forever. (Hey, I'd be glad to pay the freight & a couple hundred bucks if you send it to my place.) Even if you can use that back-up *shudder * WaterRower, and don't need it.

Karen, keep it fun, make it a game, enjoy the workout and the extra energy. The team is here for support & motivation, not a guilt trip.
Britt can remove his affiliation by going to his Profile page. Or he can, by simply not rowing, not show up in the Affiliation Standings.
Have a great new season of health, energy & accomplishments!

Hi Mardix and welcome
I bought my skierg couple of years ago after I injured my achilles rowing. I can definitely recommend it as a tough workout. The advantage is that if you have any leg, knee injury etc you can still use it sitting down or in a static position.
Takes a while to get used to it as it uses a lot of upper body.

If you do choose to use your legs(rising to your toes and squatting coming down), I found it really great for the legs, my calf muscles can get really sore.

Another great advantage is you don't get the butt numbness from sitting on the rower.Just like the rower tho good form is needed to prevent hurting your back.

I regret selling my rower now, probably a combination of both would be the ideal world. :D

Hello Team... Sorry I have been a stranger here the past week. I live in Tuscaloosa... my home was in the original projected path of the tornado, but it shifted south. I survived pretty much unscathed. Have been working daily with Samaritan's Purse in clean up & relief. Averaging eight hours a day out in field I'm physically and emotionally drained..this is a disaster that is so hard to absorb..it is many times worse in person than what the videos and pictures can show....will hopefully get back to my erging routine in the future.... this disaster has pretty much taken over my life at the moment...
