It is only necessary if you want to row WR 2Ks, or in my case this time, row a 2K that is 30 seconds _faster_ than the standard for your age and weight.

The only time of year you can race every week or two weeks for a couple of months is winter. Hence, you're again, for the millionth time, saying you just might think you will be done with your distance trials "in the fall", then sharpen and then race in the winter "fully prepared".ranger wrote:Not at all.macroth wrote:you're -again- postponing your meeting with reality to next winter?
As I just mentioned in my post above, every step in race preparation predicts your 2K.
You've obviously abandoned all hope of doing a FM trial anytime soon. You won't get past step one and will keep postponing your "full preparedness" ad vitam aeternam.

When I first took up rowing back in 2000, I did distance rowing (one or two 60min rows a day) for two years before I did anything fast at all.macroth wrote:Liar.
With this distance rowing, I brought my 60min time down from 2:05 pace to 1:50.
When I finally raced 60min, I pulled 16.7K/1:48.
60min is done at 2K + 10.
And sure enough, that was my most frequent time for 2K, once I was sharpened up for races.
I pulled 6:32 for 2K seven times.
In the winter before I broke the 50s lwt WR, I rowed 1.2 million meters for the Holiday challenge, including racing 100K and (one day) rowing 167K (14 hours).

Did you take breaks during those 60' rows? As opposed to your current habit of taking breaks all the time? Check out the heavyweight 50s rankings for 2002 and 2003.
In 2002-2003, I was seventh in the nonathlon.
And that was rowing as a heavyweight!

If the times I pulled had been compared to my lightweight 2K competitors, my point total would have been off the charts.

Sure.macroth wrote:You have a step one? That FM at 1:48
But I'll probably go about it in three tries: 1:52, 1:50, and then 1:48.
The 60s hwt FM WR is 1:54.
So all of these will be WRs.
The 60s lwt FM WR is 2:00 pace.
So if I end up pulling 1:48 for a FM, I'll beat the FM standard of my 60s lightweight 2K competitors by a dozen seconds per 500m.
When they are 60, both Mike VB and Rocket Roy will have a hard time pulling 2:00 pace for a FM.
The Viking would also be hard pressed to pulled a 2:48 FM.

Your 2k PB was set in February 2002. You didn't do all those nonathlon scores from the top down, and you didn't do them all before you set your 2K PB.ranger wrote:Yes, I did.macroth wrote:And you didn't race FM down to 5K or prepare to do so before setting your PB.

If you race your training, avoiding your weaknesses, you just get worse and worse.
Why would anyone want to race all the events, rowing badly at max drag, over and over, and as they aged, slower and slower?
Rowing well (13 SPI) at low drag (95 df.), I'll now race all of the events 3-6 seconds per 500m faster than I did ten years ago.
The normal decline with age among veterans is 4 seconds per 500m per decade.
So what I will do now will beat expectations by 7-10 seconds per 500m, given what I pulled back in 2002-2003.

Liar.
I'll give you that you entered your scores before your 2k race. But you did them in this order: (mid October) 60', HM the following day, a month later (mid November)5K, 6K the following day, 3 weeks later (December) 30', a week later 10K, then 5 weeks later (end of January 2002) FM, and a month later your 2K PB.
Maybe that's the secret! 60'-HM-5K-6K-30'-10K-FM is the magic order of distance trials that leads to a PB, randomly spread out over 4 months, and with only a month of sharpening after the FM! None of this top-down nonsense! Eurekâ!
Well, that's enough rangerfish-shooting in a barrel for this morning.
