posting attachments

Post by Bob S. » April 19th, 2011, 6:03 pm

I created a graph of Calories vs pace in Excel and would like to post it on the forum. How can I do that without having to pay to join something like YouTube or some other shit.

There doesn't seem to be any attachment option, but I see this sort of thing being posted all the time on here. How do you do it?

I have been able to copy and paste messages that I have prepared in MS Word, but what about Excel?

I get "The extension xls is not allowed." when I tried to upload an Excel spreadsheet.

So you need to find a webserver that will host it for you so you can post a link. I have a server running under the desk in my home office, so I can use that. If I didn't have that next choice would be http://docs.google.com (I already have a Google ID because I'm using gmail.com for my email). (I've also got accounts on a whole bunch of places like blogger.com, posterous.com, wp.com, dropbox.com (and others) because I'm a bit of a tech geek.)

I tried converting it into a screenshot, copying it into MS Word, going from there, but I got the "not allowed" message for both the plain screen shot and for the word document that I copied it to. I have used Word to post the regular Excel spreadsheets on both this forum and the UK forum, but the system rejects all my attempts to post a graph created in Excel.

How do people post their photos of their monitors? Is it necessary to put them into some sort of Internet account? Do most of them have their own websites?

Most photos end up on http://imageshack.us - Imageshack generates the arcane hieroglyphics needed to post a photo on here (for free).

You can post *.gif, *.jpg or *.png as attachments on here. *.doc will be disallowed due to the number of viruses carried using that vector (it's probably the same reason for disallowing *.xls).
