BOSTON – Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai has won the Boston Marathon in an unofficial 2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds — the fastest marathon ever run.

The previous best of 2:03:59 was by Haile Gebrselassie in Berlin 2008. Because of the differences in courses and wind conditions, there isn't an official world record in marathons.

Mutai's mark is almost three minutes better than the course record set just last year by Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot.

Barb Grandberg, of the Luna-Tics rowing team, won the women's race, outsprinting American Desiree Davila to win in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, 36 seconds
And Emmanuel Mutai of Kenya won the London marathon in 2:04.40 on Sunday, apparently they are unrelated.....

Cheers, Baz

Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim

Image A short bunny trail...

Great to be able to vicariously experience some of the mega-events with our teammates! Now that we've gotten across the finish line with bg....whew, what a workout!

Image The Man In The White Hat, Mike G, introduced us to the Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim trek - a Grand Canyon adventure. A write up in this weekend's Travel section of the local newspaper brought up a book that some of us might be interested in: "Canyon Crossing: Experiencing Grand Canyon From Rim to Rim." Says it's a good read for anyone about to embark on a rim-to-rim hike - or who has hiked this recently. It's not a guidebook, but rather a journey through the canyon via eyes of rangers, hikers, and others.

With an extra long Easter-break coming up, and after my PB zapped me of strength over the past couple of days, I’ve decided to sit it out until after Easter. Visiting the country over the break so there’ll be plenty of walking opportunities making a bit of a change!

We get a holiday on the Friday, and Tuesday for Easter, and Monday is our ANZAC Day, possibly the American equivalent of Veterans Day...

Grrr....haven't been rowing the past couple of days.
Lots of stuff to do around the yard and house this time of year. To make things worse, we have squirrels in our attic. We figured out where they were coming in and sealed of their exits. We called the exterminator and had trap cages placed in the attic but they said it would take a few days for them to get hungry enough to enter the cages.
I just hate hearing them running around at 6 in the morning. It makes my toes curl. I have a phobia about rodents but who doesn't i guess.

Squirrels in the attic, bats in the belfry - this is so quintessential Luna-Tics forum! (Although I do sympathize with James G on the squirrels in the attic...would creep me out!) I'm grabbing today's numbers, but will have to post a bit later. Row on - we're closing in on the finish of the rowing year!
