Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
If you raise the drag and slow your legs down, you cut your ratio.
It looks as though I now row in something close to triple the ratio of Roy and Mike.
If you pull 9 SPI at 120 df. like MIke and Roy, you are in a 3-to-1 ratio at 20 spm.
If you pull 12 SPI at 95 df., you are in 3-to-1 ratio at 30 spm.

whatever your "target" may me, you cant do a 36:00 10k now (1:48 average).ranger wrote:<snip>

BTW, in a week or two, I'll have erg monitor up and running on my MacBook Pro, so I will know these things for sure.

That will be 4 x 10K, 1:48 @ 25 spm, no rest.

Wouldn’t it be more sensible to say – I’ll target my FM trial at 01:48?ranger wrote: I'll do my FM trial at 1:48.

In the center of this race, Stephansen is in a 2-to-1 ratio at 42 spm.

OK ... post 1Km of continous erging at any steady pace you like ... the point is that it will likely not be the ratio (1-1, 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1) you claim that you and only you can acheive.ranger wrote:What does a 500 trial have to do with a 2K?JimR wrote:I suspect that if you posted a video that matched the 500m trial MikeVB put up recently (using the same pace ... your choice on drag and spm) NavHaz would come along and show you are not a erging a 3-to-1 ratio
I would do a 500m trial at 46 spm and high drag.
1:24?
It's only 65 strokes.
Sure.
Pulling 46 spm at high drag, I would be in close to a 1-to-1 ratio, too.
At 34 spm and 95 df., I am in close to a 3-to-1 ratio, though.
And that's _way_ faster than Mike and Roy are going in the video.
1:37 pace, not 1:42.
Sure, I would be happy to take a video of that.
At 1:42, I only have to rate 30 spm.
When I am rating 30 spm at 95 df. pulling 11 SPI, I am in a solid 3-to-1 ratio.
That's the kind of thing I am now doing with my distance rowing.
My target is 1:42 for 10K.
10K is done at 2K + 8.

The only reason you can reasonably continue to make all the claims you do is because you don't provide enough details (proof as it were) to support your claims. Yet you continue to post others should.
How about this for a new idea ... you post a theory and you profide proof your theory is accurate for you. Then challenge everyone else to put up or shut up. Hell, post proof of a 1:48 FM and all conversation stops because nobody else will want to do an FM to make a point.

Start of randomly selected drive.
End of that drive (or at least change of handle momentum).
End of that stroke cycle (or at least apparent change of handle momentum).
Stroke duration 1.52 seconds. Drive duration 0.72 seconds. Recovery duration 0.76 seconds. Drive:recovery ratio 1:1.05.
I can pretty much guarantee this wasn't at df 95, either. From other photos at the 2008 Crash-Bs I'd estimate the damper setting at between 4 and 5. So probably 120-125ish on a new competition machine.

Your point? Ratios don't win races. People win races at 100DF and they win races at 180DF. There's no magic formula.ranger wrote:If you raise the drag and slow your legs down, you cut your ratio.

Prof, what goes through your mind when someone places pure fact in place of your lies and bullshit?
Are you embarrassed?
Re: Ranger's training thread
April is often a very busy time for The Pathological One on the Forum as it dawns on him that yet again, he cannot produce a single piece of evidence (not one) that he is able to even complete a quarter of any of his beloved targets. An example of this is his current and continued inability to complete less than a quarter of the FM at his proposed 'FM pace'.
So this will therefore result in the following tactics, all of which we'll see in the coming two weeks:
1. Decreasing attention paid to a previously stated target. For example, the FM will shortly not be mentioned at all.
2. Increasing attention to the upcoming OTW season.
3. Increasingly surreal targets (see HM @1:42, etc)
4. Increasingly abusive posts to anyone that points out the truth, such as Byron.
5. Increasing attention to Roy, Mike VB, Dennis H & any Danish or German LWT you care to mention.
But one thing is for absolute certain:
There will be not a single ranked piece posted before the end of April, over any distance.
Anyway, back to real life for me for a while, I'm growing a little tired of the Prof's personality disorder. Would someone mind PM'ing me if Ranger does anything noteworthy. Even if he manages like a 10k @ 1:50.. anything will do.

Re: Ranger's training thread
What ever "I'll do" means in your mind, you can not, at some point over the next week, really actually do a FM 42,195m in 2:46:00(1:58 average). You can talk, and speculate, and postulate about it, but you cant actually do it.ranger wrote:I'll do my FM trial at 1:48. Since you cant do a 2:46 FM, you most certainly cant do a 2:31 FM (1:48 average).

no he isnt, as Nav points out using the video, he is basically 1-1. I've watched him twice at CRASH-B close up and was surprised both times at how far short of vertical his shins are.ranger wrote:In the center of this race, Stephansen is in a 2-to-1 ratio at 42 spm.
