I did it! I finished the Holiday Challenge with a few days to spare. The Challenge helped keep me from sluffing off exercise longer than I needed to when fighting a cold. I took two days off, several days of slow steady pacing, then managed a new personal best on a 10km of which I'm particulary proud--it was the same pace I could barely sustain for 2km a few years ago. The consistency of rowing most days improves my pace so much, it's really encouraging.

I think I'm going to skip on the T-shirt and hoody (been wearing way too many of those the last few years), but am all set to reward myself in another way (maybe finally get a nice gift ring fitted that has been sitting in my drawer too large for a few months).

Now on to the the January weight loss and virtual team challenge. Watch our for Quack Attack!

Margaret

I just finished my 100,000m today and I feel like next year 200k is not all that far out of reach (I started a week late this year and still have 4 days left I could have rowed this year if necessary!)! I am looking forward to more challenges in 2006.

Renee
Whoo-hoo - I did it! Thanks thanks thanks to everyone on this forum for getting me through the doubting phase last week - from Bufflehead and her pace ducks who did the challenge while waiting for a new knee - hope the surgery went well! - to Carla who prodded me through the one day I did NOT want to row (but did! and got over the hump). Now I'm thinking I need to do one more long row to make up for all the easy metres between intervals that I posted for just-in-case-bes. I know there's no such thing as junk metres during a challenge, but I'm feeling like I cheated just a tad! I have time to do it though - don't I?

Yay to Tina, Tigger2esp, Margaret, and Kit44!

Feels good to get that goal accomplished, hey? Converting meters to miles, 200k = 124.27miles. Not too shabby!

And Kit44--200K is 200K. I had a few bouts of only doing about 1000-2000m because of lack of time or just lack of oomph. Pennies add up to dollars!

I hope Buffles posts a note soon! The flock isn't the same without all of our Ducks.

--Jen

I finished my 200K yesterday!! Can't believe I actually did it. This was my first Holiday challenge, and I've discovered that the challenge is a real motivator for me! Knowing that everyone's out there plugging away at it like me really helps.
Now to keep it up for the team challenge in January!
--Dawn

Still 47K to go. But that's quite doable.

Oh NO! How did I miss three consecutive days of rowing??
I MUST do a HM Today and the remainder tomorrow. We were leaving first thing in the morning to my Mom's (but now we are leaving as soon as I finish rowing.)

Fortunately Grams post put me in the right frame of mind for my first HM!

Just finished this morning with my hour piece. It's wierd, this is the first year that I haven't had to do lots of extra meters the last week to make up for the ones that I missed earlier in the month. I think this may say something kinda disturbing about what's happened to my rowing this month... (keep in mind I live in FL, we're usually on the water now).
Glad to be done early, looking forward to doing this again next year!

Heather

WooHoo!!
Got my little HC done last night, with a few days to spare to boot. Didn't think I would as I was sick several days last week & too many meters to count to go. Thanks to all the chatter on the threads to keep me motivated & going. I just buckled down & pulled till I couldn't each day. Hoping to do the 200,000 next year with more conditioning & experience by then!
Merry Christmas & Happy HC to all those finishing up!
Catherine
Congrats LittleBit, Dawnv and Afterburner!

Feels good to see those last few meters roll off, hey? I had my exact amount figured for what I needed to hit 200k on the last row, and did a mighty, "YESSSSS!" and pumped my hands in the air when I hit it. I did one of those little dances while I was sitting on the seat, too. Then I rowed a few hundred meters more in case my math was off.

Nice job to all who have finished but I missed!

Have a great holiday, and Merry Christmas, y'all!

--Jen in WI, it'll be a white one up here

Well I am glad I posted that I was going to do a HM. Because if I hadn't made the public declairation and I wouldn't have done it.

The first third was the WORST. The farthest I had ever rowed in one sitting was about 12 K. Well I am saying to myself things like "how could I have been so stupid not to row for three days to get myself into this situation" and "I was so close to finishing and now I blew it" but after the first 40 minutes I just shut my eyes and remembered Jen's cry "I wanna that shirt" I want that shirt.

When reading other posts people talked about body glide. I had no idea where one needed to put it. I know now! I also have a blister on my right heel. But I DID it. I can't believe it. I used two pair of toddler socks and sat on a hand towel. More to absorb sweat than for comfort.

I will finish the HC tomorrow in my first ever on-line row pro. (If I can move in the morning. but I have too... I wanna a t-shirt!)

Susan

Hee!Hee! Susan, you are a hoot--a determined hoot, but a hoot nevertheless! A woman after my own heart.

It's amazing what ya can do when you push the envelope, isn't it? Even when every fiber of your being is screaming to quit now and go eat the brownies. You're right--that first part of a long row is psychologically daunting, but it gets almost easier the higher the numbers get. Endorphins help! I think some of my longer rows ended up happening on a whim--I intended on doing a shorter row, then told myself, "just another thousand meters...."

Now my mantra is, "Igotmyt-shirt, Igotmyt-shirt...." And, "Iwantrowpro, Iwantrowpro...." I'll hafta flirt with Santa and see what happens! Coal in my stocking, that's what'll happen.

--Jen in WI

I'm sure you're going to really feel like a champion tomorrow when you finish!!!

I am in your shoes right now! I have around 47K to do to finish. It's now midnight, and some guests we had over for the evening just left; we've cleaned up the mess and now I really want to lay down and sleep more than anything in the whole world , but if I do, I'll really be sorry! So I'm off to do about 16K of something or other--it's going to be a dreadful slog, I'm afraid, because I'm not motivated to do anything in particular, just get rid of the meters.

It's going to be a really great hoody, isn't it???
yawn
groan

Woo Hoo!!! Third time's a charm! I finally finished today. Even though I didn't finish as early as I wanted to (trying to keep up with Buffle, et al), I still finished a few days early. My body kept trying to give me excuses to not finish (back twinges, numb butt, shoulder tweek), but my husband kept teasing me so I just took it easy and warmed up, stretched and kept on rowing!

Next goal is to get to my first million!

Good luck to those who are almost there, and congrats to those who have finished!

Aiko

I have to ask - Carla - two days left - how far do you have to row still? I'm sure you'll do it even though I couldn't! Would it help to have someone row the same distance you need to finish? Let me knwo how much, and I'll row along with you tomorrow!

kit
