LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I did something last Sept. (Will attempt again if I can talk my brother and daughter to repeat the "hike"), Rim-2-Rim in the Grand Canyon in one day (26 miles in over 100 degrees F. One of the most beautiful and rewarding things I have ever done. The next day we turned around and took 2 days to complete a R-2-R-2-R. If anyone ever gets the chance, call me I would do it again in a second!

Wow, Mike, that sounds really cool. Is it a specific trail you take for this, or are you on your own?

Battle of the ERGs: Day 23/24
The entire community of World Erg Challenge rowers has generated 338.5 Million Team Meters in the 22 or 23 days that Concept2's tracked meters for this event. That's enough to circle Earth eight and a half times - but just shy of what we've done to row to the moon (which we listed as 384,000,000 m). Perspective!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
We hiked the main corridor trails, started on the south rim and took the South Kaibab/North Kaibab to the North Rim. Then return on the North Kaibab to the Bright Angel. It was my daughter’s first trip below the rim and she kept saying that she should have believed the rangers "Do not attempt to hike from the canyon rim to the river and back in one day. Each year hikers suffer serious illness or death from exhaustion.", I said we are not returning we are going up the other side!

Sounds like the Aussie bush. Being a frequent walker/hiker I am amazed at just how many people I see totally under-prepared. Very little water (if any) unsuitable clothing, and sandals just don’t cut it out there.... whoops, don’t start me!macbruce1 wrote:Hi Mike,MikeG wrote:I did something last Sept. That is another one I've had in my bucket list for a while. I've read about it and learned how many start it with no idea what they are getting into-not in good shape, wrong clothing, not enough hydration and energy food. I guess it keeps the rangers busy I've also read that alot of those who get in trouble are the "macho types" who think they can "just tough it out".
Ron
But the Rim to Rim sounds like a fantastic walk. I seem to remember a program on the Discovery (or like) channel recently that showed a group of young hikers that were walking in a similar region (may have been there) but were caught out by time, ran out of water, and rescued by chance only. Tragically one died, but the terrain looked totally unforgiving.
A modern day Australian explorer Cecil Madigan, well modern by recent history, who (arguably) made the first crossing of the Simpson Desert, said in his account of the trip ‘The success of an expedition depends primarily on the preliminary organisation’ ...One of my favourite quotes.
Hoping to venture back onto the ERG tomorrow...
