Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
I need to warm up and be a lot fresher than I am now in order to row as well as I can at 40 spm (I have already done my 20K for the day), but here are a few successive strokes at 95 df., just done in my street clothes, etc.
I'll do a video with 50 strokes tomorrow morning after I am warmed up and rowing well.

Well done bozo, the video is private again. You really are so very clueless when it comes to anything scientific, technical or mathematical.ranger wrote:

I'm sorry Rich.
I love the short and sweet curve.. but why so slow a pace
Here's me targeting 38 spm and 1:32 pace for 500m and low drag:
From 200-300m here was the readout...
:18.3 - 300 - 1:31.5 - 36 - 152

Re: Ranger's training thread
I've seen plenty of scullers miss water, but never anyone square the blades .46 seconds into the drive!Even at 30 spm, when my drive time contracts to .46 seconds, the peak of my force curve comes about 40% of the way through my drive.
If I were in a boat, I suspect that this would be right around when blades are square.

You can do it, and can deliver it for 2K, if you train from long to short.
So do the same at 30 spm for 60min.
Then keep cutting the distance and raising the rate until you are doing 2K @ 40 spm.
FM 28 spm
HM 29 spm
60min 30 spm
10K 31 spm
30min 32 spm
6K 33 spm
5K 34 spm
2K 40 spm
To do this, you can't do your distance rowing at 20 spm and 9 SPI, though.
You need to keep the drag (95 df.) down and the stroking power (11 SPI) and rate (30 spm) up.
Rate 28 for a FM; 29 spm for a HM; 30 spm for 60min.
A FM is a few more than 10 strokes.
It is 3500 strokes.

Re: Ranger's training thread
rate 39
For someone who really would be be training for marathon that is redicule. But the again we all know you will never row that ever again.
And that pace/rate combination is also pisspoor, I for one do all mu work at low rate. And at rate 39 i simply can't row that slow. This is actually a perfectly example of yours slowing down. Doing a few strokes at that pace/rate combination gives away a lot. Better not to do that again, keep at your hollow talk, after all that is your major strenght.

That's rowing like Stephansen.
He pulls 11.5 SPI.
11.5 SPI @ 42 spm is the Open lwt 2K WR.

Re: Ranger's training thread
At 95 df., it looks as though I'll rate 28 spm for a FM.hjs wrote:Rate 39For someone who really would be be training for marathon
With a drive of .46 seconds, that's well up over a 3-to-1 ratio.
3.5-to-1
A ratio that high feels like you are resting most of the time, especially if you are stroking lightly (11 SPI).
Matthias rated 27 spm for his WR 40s lwt FM, but he probably used a higher drag.
I'll use right around the same stroking power.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Well it's a pastiche, I suppose. What you have omitted in your comparison is that your Nordic knobthrob does it for the full 2Kranger wrote:That's rowing like Stephansen.

Pure speculation and wishful thinking. You don't have freaking clue what Matthias does.ranger wrote:Matthias rated 27 spm for his WR 40s lwt FM, but he probably used a higher drag.
And 39 spm -- that really is tooooooo funny for words. Since you can't pull a 2K at 39s you had better up the drag
