Sorry for doubting you. When are you going after Nik "Big Bird" Fleming's 2K record?

@atblsb: Congratulations on a huge achievement. A world record. How much faster is that than the old record?

I gave it my best at the CRASH-B's - was on pace until the last 350 meters and then went down bad. My strength has always been with the longer pieces. I am working on being a better sprinter.

@jlawson: no wonder you want the cool signature thing, you've got three shiny new PBs to plunk in there. Terrific work on the short stuff. I hate them most of all.

Wish me luck, I have a 6k pb in my pln for tomorrow.

6K Time Trial
Was: 22:20.0 (1:51.7) on 11/25/2010
Is: 21:46.4 (1:48.8 )

Details here: http://concept2.co.uk/forum/blog.php?u=11746&b=83971

There are only a couple of weeks left in the season. I have 2 more PBs that I would like to take on. The 1000m and HM. I think I can trash the 1000m, right now its only only 2.2" faster than my 2K splits. The HM will be tougher. I've made a couple of attempts to go faster since last October when I did it, and not succeeded.

Nice work and way to keep one step (or three!) ahead of me. At this rate I might just get discouraged and give up ;-)

New PB for 2k at 7:04.4 but I still can't get under 7 :-(

I was on pace last night to break 7 until 600m to go and finally gave up since I didn't have a set of paddles handy for the family to jump start my heart at the end. Tonight I started a few tenth over 7 pace and hoped to finish strong but instead I faded another second or so.

You will get there sooner or later. Part of the challenge is getting used to the pain but better be careful. If you're a 7:04 now than with consistent training you will be doing a 6:58 easily in a couple of weeks. No reason to take risks to go too fast.

Yesterday I came home real tired from work, eating junk all day, drank a pint of beer, had dinnner, then a cup of strong coffee, and I felt really tired. Then I went to the basement for an endurance training. Did a 5k in 18:50.6, which is a new PB, albeit not a really sharp one. The splits were

1k 1:54.4
2k 1:53.8
3k 1:53.6
4k 1:53.5
5k 1:50.0

and I did the last 500m in 1:48. I guess I could have gone faster with better food, better choice of sports drinks and a more even distribution of splits. However, these "unexpected" best times are sometimes the nicest. This hurt a lot less than the 6k in 22:44 where I started too fast, had to slow down to 1:57 with 1500m to go and finished in 1:55.

So do some more training and then try again. Pushing the limits is better done in race settings.

@jlawson: congrats on the 7:04, the 7:00 barrier is a lot like Mach 1, it's a pretty big wall and you're about to smash through it. You're getting fast enough that you'll need to approach attempts with more rest and only try them when you feel really good. I made that mistake on a 1k attempt on Monday. I totally blew a gasket.

Maybe you should try the sander PB diet (beer and coffee)! Or the guy on the UK blogs who casually crushed a 6k after eating a pepperoni pizza!

Seriously, you are making awesome progress and getting faster all the time. Are you going to get on the water this spring?

Hmmm. Maybe a double cheeseburger and fries would do the trick.
I hope to get out on the water soon. I have been waiting for the water to warm up some since I am sure I will be turning it over a few times.

I set a new PB today btw for a HM. I started out a second or two off PB pace figuring that I could slow up another second or two and turn it into a nice long slow distance session or, if I felt good I could pick it up and put in a hard effort. Well, I ended up doing a serious negative split and setting a PB of 1:24:13 which was 1:14 faster.

@jlawson: Terrific row! Congrats on the PB. I've been too wimpy to try to pull a HM for ranking lately. Maybe in a week or so.
