Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
"Just learning to row"? After 7 years and millions of OTW meters? God, that's depressing.

Re: Ranger's training thread
So would you have everyone believe you could get on an erg on slides and it would not slow you down at all?ranger wrote:No.mikvan52 wrote:You could be in for a big surprise!
Slides or a dynamic erg would be no surprise at all.
I for one would not believe that is true.

ranger, you are not "just someone learning to row" so get over that. You've been promoting yourself as the second coming of Jesus with sculls all the while completely HIDING your pace on the water over measured distance. That attitude deserves beat down - so get used to it. Every schoolyard kid who thought they could brag on and on and on about something they will do but can not seem to prove it and instead goes on and on and on about some excuse gets a massive wedgy and hung on the coat racks of the locker room.
Perhaps you know this from experience.

Paul:
The slide difference:
As the C2 text says: Everyone who uses the slides smiles...
ranger doesn't.... so he snarls instead,,,, and lies.... in an attempt to cover up his snarli-ness..
Who's a faster sculler, Rich?.... Miani or ( erg WR-holding) Stephansen?
Miani got gold at the WC in NZ; Henrik got what 3rd, 4th...
Henrik walloped Miani at CRASH-b.... and that's just one example...
Ever watch Brad Lewis' A Fine Balance?...IMO: Boy, did Teti hone his selection skills by blowing the Dave Simon (erg-master-of-Reggie Lewis) thing leading up to Sydney.
The physics of the two systems (OTW v. OTErg) are quite different.
People who overdue the erg are often blind to that fact and sometimes fall prey to thinking that their strength will overcome form considerations for the water.
Alan Campbell... who happens to have the second fastest OTW 1x time ever recorded says... It takes 3 OTW strokes for every 1 OTErg stroke to undo the damage done to his form by the erg...
Xeno Muller says.... TO win on the erg (big time) you have to train on the erg.... SO the converse is true....
I bet XENO would rather coach OTW than do the gym thing.... with the erg rats.
Rich: If you continue your training patterns with hopes of ever winning big on the water... it's been proven you'll be disappointed ...
It's a fact not speculation.
Erging allows the rower to get fit and strong...but there are other determining elements out there... besides peak force at the front end of a curve on a monitor... on this piece of fitness equipment. All you have to notice is the difference in the way an oar blade moves through the water vs how an erg chain moves the sprocket to see that there are huge differences.
But this is your thread... Just don't over-reach your expertise, okay.
How many races have you completed on the water?

Re: Ranger's training thread
That's a quick reversal, even by your standards. What about the National Team, have you now decided that they too don't now believe what you said they did earlier this morning?ranger wrote:No, I don't think they are the same.PaulH wrote:Clearly that means that, while Mike thinks watt creation and moving a boat are two different things, you think they are the same.

Nope.macroth wrote:"Just learning to row"? After 7 years and millions of OTW meters? God, that's depressing.
It's just fine.
Nothing at all stands in the way of someone learning to move a boat.
_Everything_ stands in the way of someone trying to revive a dead engine.
And who says I am so bad OTW?
I can do a nice 2:05 @ 26 spm in my Fluid.
There's every bit as good as Mike.
The only difference is that I am still going to get a lot better.
I can still improve in all sorts of ways.
I have never even had a lesson, much less a coach.
MIke is has a coach, is a coach, has been rowing all his life, etc., and so probably just about as good as he can be right now.

Folks out there do and think lots of strange stuff (buy high, sell low, etc.).
Nothing I can do about that.
That's _their_ problem.

It just clarifies my point.
The best OTW rowers are also great on the erg.
I row OTW, so I know good and well that moving a boat and erging are related, but distinct, affairs.
How could I not?
But rowing OTW is also demanding physically.
You are dead in the water if you have no engine.

That's just what I am.
I just have one hell of a big engine.

ranger wrote:Yea.
As I thought, I am indeed most comfortable for my everyday rowing if I hold a 3-to-1 ratio, not a 4-to-1 ratio.
Sure, I can probably only rate 25 spm in a 4-to-1 ratio for a FM, because to row for 2.5 hours, I need to keep my HR down to 75% HRR, 155 bpm.
But I don't usually row a FM every day.
HM is more like it.
And I can row a HM at top-end UT1, for me, 172 bpm.
So, it looks as though I am going to rate 30 spm for a HM.
Stroking lightly, at 11.7 SPI and 10 MPS, that's 1:40 @ 30 spm.
Wow.
Now, I am not just rowing like Eskild E.
I am rowing like Eskild E. when he was 20.
I am rowing like Stephansen.
It looks as though I might pull 18K for 60min.
That predicts a 6:00 2K.
Stroke feels fabulous now.
Butta.
95 df.
From now on, after I am warmed up, it looks as though I can just row every day at 30 spm.
Top-end UT1 rowing is my favorite sort of rowing.
I am used to it.
I can do it every day, with great benefit, and no damage.

We cant let this slide kids. Von MannBatts little danish pastry fantasy has reached new levels. He is as good as EE was at 20 and rows like Stephansen as well ! What is it about these blonde Nordic types that get you going in the middle of the night? Congrats on the 6.00 2k by the way. As you say it was butta...or is that what is in your grubby mitt as you type the words EE?

Do you row a 1x OTW?jliddil wrote:Clearly someone who has never erged on slides. It would be a hoot to watch you bang into the ends of the slides.ranger wrote:No.mikvan52 wrote:You could be in for a big surprise!

Have you raced a 1x OTW?
If so, how do you do?
What pace can you hold for 5K?
What do you do for 1K?
