Interesting how many cyclists have been top ranking in ranger's age groups throughout the years. The triathletes, Watt and Seibach in the 50-54 group, Brooks and Hastings in the 55 to 59. Now Simonsen in the new group 60-64 .

The best ergers are not rowers at all, they are cyclists. :D

Get that new bike!
Hi MrFit,

Ranger will use his new bike with the same amount of skill that he employs in his Fluid. Did you ever pick up on the fact that he does not use cycling shoes with cleats? He thinks using toe clips is good enough. And he says that riding in the highest gear is the best way to go. Since his current bike is stuck that way, there is no problem with the gearing. Anchor hauling in a boat and mashing a high gear with square pedaling on a bike go hand in hand.

What a reaction I got when I mentioned the best lightweights in ranger's class are competitive cyclists.

Oh Me Me Me! Mention my rowing. Put the spotlight on me, mrfit. My narcissism demands it! Compare their times to my dreams. Put them down for not improving past ridiculously fast and being WR holders and those that tote hammers.

OK,OK. Stop crying. Sorry, you get some mention. Ranger is (or was?) among the best, but....

is not a racing cyclist. I just thought everyone knew that. Jesus, you are amazing!

I would not be so harsh. I respect Ranger's biking.

You're in a minority of one.

He's always lying about his 100 miles in less than 5 hours.

No, it's not stuck in a high gear.

That's just the problem.

My bike is stuck in a light gear, much too light for my liking.

Not enough power.

I'm stuck on myself
:P :P

Rich: I realize how entertaining it is for the bikers among us to talk biking...
We'd still like to know... Can you confirm that you'll be posting an C2 distance on the erg this month?

Didn't think so.

Yea, personally, Frost was a piece of work.

Most poets are psychologically edgy.

Comes with the territory.

Great poet, though.

Frost won four Pulitzer prizes for poetry, pretty much in succession, one every five years, as his volumes of poetry came out in the middle of his career.

No one else has four Pulitzer Prizes for poetry.

Edwin Arlington Robinson won three.

Is it the front mech or the rear mech that's stuck?

As well you should ... he is the best biker ever. You know he is faster than Lance will be at 60 and if he had started biking when he was young he would be better than the best ever!

Why his background skating with future stars, running marathons with the Kenyans (slowing to wait as a polite gesture of course), canoeing cross-country (no carrying a canoe for the ranger). Why it has been rumored that he can outrun the sled dogs while pulling a sled in the Iditarod in his bare feet!

But that pales in comparsion to his astounding investment skills ... surely he is Warren Buffet and Donald Trump rolled in to one. A millionare twice over with manisons to match he is the envy of one and all.

Knowing all this I think you should do far more than respect ranger's biking ... you should worship it!

My respect is normalized to a number of conditions;

He's 60

He not really a cycling enthusiast although he does love to bike.

With those things against him, he does OK. I'm not adoring him. I just respect it. It's respectable.

But a light gear in cycling is quite comparable to rowing at 90 df or 95 df or wherever you are currently. Lance would be proud and have trouble keeping up.
