Hi

I'm also planning to do the Xmas challenge. I have never done more than 34k a week, so it'll be interesting to see if my body is up for about 45k a week for several weeks. I may have to settle for a 100k, but I will surely give 200k a try and only stop the pursuit if my body tells me it's too much :-)

Fingers crossed

/Anna

Hey - thanks for all the encouragement, advice, and takers!

I'm not sure if my living room is big enough for slides. Sounds like a good solution, though. I remember that CaroleMac used a pillow on the floor for her cast. Hmmmm...

Hey Woolsy (like your new nickname?) are Monster Cookies considered good healing food? I know what you mean about T-shirts. I couldn't wait to get mine. If I get through this challenge, I'm gonna order one for sure!

Okay then ladies - let's all get ready for Turkey Day. Chime in whenever you have updates or need a little extra push!

Quack! Quack!
The Buffle

I'm definitely in too! I was hoping to go at the 200k level, but not sure that I'll have time permitting, but am so ready to get back to my rower! November was bad - i was sick, crazy busy w/ school, and had an uncle that got sick & passed away last week. So I'm ready to work off alot of stress on the rower - it's amazing how much my blood pressure goes down when i row! So once i can get a couple of exams wrapped up, i'm all about my C2!

If you get to call me Woolsy, then I get to call you Buffles! Jes' kiddin'! Been a good girl all day and can't stand it any more.

Yup, Monster Cookies are the kind of cookies that can be rationalized into anything. I figure with all that oatmeal, peanut butter and a dozen eggs--those things counteract the 4c of sugar and 2# of brown sugar, as well as the pound of butter. Butter's a dairy product, so there's some calcium. And I figure the eggs and peanut butter are providing quality proteins, which are vital to the healing process. Peanut oil is one of those "good" oils for warding off cardiovascular disease. And the pound of M&Ms and the pound of chocolate chips are required mood elevators. And hey, the oatmeal and all that fiber it offers?? We know what THAT'S good for, right? So, see? Monster Cookies are GOOD for you!

Maybe you could put the foot of your affected leg on a skateboard, and it could just roll back and forth with ya's when you row?? You'd have to be on a non-carpeted floor though. Might be a tad tricky to keep that skateboard going otherwise. Hee!Hee!

Oh, I are being a bad girl tonight.

--Jen
So - I was back on the erg today, and getting prepped to start the Challenge - planning to start w/ a nice long row (by my standards) on Thanksgiving Day (but I'm still having pie!)

But the erg's been good to me so far - lost over 15 pounds so far this year & that feels better than the food is - so back it is. I love those little Challenge Certificates. My friends laugh at me giggling over them. However, I was ithe maid of honor n a wedding in October - we bought our dresses off the rack - and mine didn't zip when we got it. Nearly making the bride cry with pride when I put my dress on and zipped w/ no problem was a good "WooHoo" moment - That was fun. So, yes, it's been a roller coaster of a couple of months. But that's when it's interesting, right?

Michelle

Hey there, Michelle!

Yup, I've been indulging in the comfort foods this weekend too for some reason. I made Monster Cookies, a couple of loaves of homemade bread, devilled eggs, BBQ pork for sandwiches, made some croutons out of some stale bread (used butter AND olive oil--not just all butter like usual ). And I made lots of everything, but it's all stuff I can freeze for later (except the eggs, yuk!). Oh yeah, I almost forgot the potato/cheese casserole--the one with the buttered cornflakes on top.

Gee, I wonder why I'm stuck at 37 pounds of weight loss--been there for the last couple of months and can't break out of that plateau??

At least with the erg, I feel less guilty about the comfort foods, because I know I can work it off. And the nice thing is that I really do LIKE to use the erg. I've already tried to average 40k-50k on the rower per week to up my exercise amounts to try to bust out of that plateau, but I think I'm going to have to pay more attention to the food quality as well. I've not been the best there, unfortunately (see first paragraph!). Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper is a big downfall for me.

And I like those C2 challenge certificates, too! I'm almost at my first million meters, and I WANT that free t-shirt. And I'm aiming for one of the sweatshirts for the Holiday Challenge. I'm kinda/sorta in between sizes, so maybe I should try what you did with the dress and go to the lower size?? Might be a good motivator for me!

Enjoy that pie! I'll be doing some rowing this Thursday, too!

--Jen
P.S. Sorry I called ya Kelley--thought that was your name. There's a reason why I married a "Smith."

I went to the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, hence the Kelley.

Soda is tough, but I've managed to more or less pull off a switch from soda to coffee & water. Definitely helped.

The T-shirt is a dilema - I like the idea - definitely an incentive to be able to wear a t-shirt that you've worked very hard to earn! I'm trying to make sure that I'm on pace to finish my first million meters before the end of this season - the 200k would be a big push. I'd like to try the marathon in April too, but we'll see.

You are really close to the million! How exciting! That will be a big WooHoo moment!

Michelle

The t-shirt is navy. I'm assuming the design on the shirts will be the one that's shown on the H.C. info page??

The million meter t-shirt is white (a pic is on the page with the million meter info).

I want a sweatshirt.
--Jen

If the sweatshirt is anything like the one we got for the Blue Moon Row, it's really nice! My husband got one and I got the T-shirt. Once I saw his sweatshirt I wanted it! Too bad it was size XL

I'm going for the sweatshirt too!

Shannon

Hmmmm - I could use a new sweatshirt! That means I better get busy! Is everybody all set to start? I'm shooting for 20K on Turkey Day.

I just realized that I lack a little under 400K to reach 2 million. Drat! I wish I would have paid more attention to that. I could have hit that mark by the 19th if I had pushed it a little more! That's what I get for not totaling the numbers right away. I wonder how close I can get...

Oh well, with any luck I can make it by the end of this rowing season.

Later,
Buffles (as Woolsy would say!)

HeeHee!

Hey Buffle(s)!

Yup, I want that HC sweatshirt. Suzanne from C2 (got a very nice email from her when I asked) said it's really a nice stonewashed denim blue.

I have to do 19k to hit my million mark. Trying to decide if I want to go for that today, or save it for tomorrow so I can put it toward the HC. Hmmmm.... Considering how many calories I'm going to be prepping today so I can eat them tomorrow, I probably ought to do both, hey?

I'm off til Tuesday, yay! So I should be able to crank out some meters this wkd. But speaking of "woolsy" stuff , I want to spin up some nice Border Leicester blend wool on my spinning wheel so I can make some handspun, handknit wool mittens. I had a pair of wool/silk blend mittens that wore like iron, considering I used them to shovel snow (and we have LOTS of snow here in the winter!). They still haven't worn through, even after 6 seasons, but they're getting a tad thin. I might use the same blend to make a pair of wool socks to wear with my tennies when I row. Ah, a nice wkd planned---spin, knit, row, eat....

--Jen/woolsy--and all different kinds of woolsies, too!

Happy Day After Thanksgiving, Ducks!

Well, I managed to do 20K yestereday by watching the football game. I really had to focus on all you Ducks out there because I really wasn't in the mood for a long row yesterday. So - thanks to all of you! That just proves what a great thing this forum is for us! It keeps me going because I know that there are fellow Ducks out there with the same purpose!!

I hope everyone reads all these topics, because I want to welcome all the new Ducks out there properly! I will have to waddle over to the other threads later. Right now I have to get motivated to go in there and get as many meters in as I can before I go visit the vampires at the hospital a little later! It has been a while since I have attempted back to back long rows.

I hope you are all having a great holiday! I'll check back in with ya later.

The Buffle

Wow, Buffle, 20k is doing purty good! Now, just do that nine more times, and you'll have the HC whipped.

Of course you have to do in 3 weeks what the rest of us have 4 weeks to do, plus factoring in the regular trips to the vampires. But you sound pretty determined, and I know you can do it, so keep on plugging! To help counteract the vampire effects, take a daily multivitamin with iron (like One-a-Day with Iron, unless you're taking an iron supplement already) , and take it with some orange juice. Vitamin C helps to increase the absorption of iron, and hopefully that will help with the vampire-induced anemia.

I have to get a flu shot Monday, so I'm hoping that doesn't slow me down much. I read where folks tend to get a tad achey after getting one. I have my long clinic day the next day so I'm hoping I don't turn into a slug for that. My staff will whup on me if I do because it's supposed to be a full-plus schedule. Usually I don't get too much rowing done on Tuesdays anyway because I've got 12-14 hrs invested in work. Just doesn't leave a lot of energy leftover for rowing. But I'll take that over what you've got coming at ya!

How well are you going to waddle with a gimpy knee?? We'll hafta find some duck-sized crutches around somewhere....

Hang in there!
--Jen
