Agreed.
I don't see any reason whatsoever to "prove and verify" your training.
The proof and verification of your training is the quality of your racing.

Can you give the link to that thread ?ranger wrote:If you have no interest in how someone might train themselves to beat a WR by a dozen seconds per 500m or row like those 25 years younger than they are, then, sure, that says a lot about you, but it has no bearing on the usefulness of this thread.hjs wrote:this whole thread is utterly useless

I have three WR 2Ks.
The last two years, I have had the best 2K in my age and weight category, even though I haven't even been training to race.
Give or take a bit, I pulled WR pace for my age and weight.
No one my age and weight has ever raced faster.
This indoor rowing season isn't over, either.
When all is said and done, I will probably have the best 2K for my age and weight this year, too.
Last year, no one my age and weight came within 20 seconds of my 2K.
How about you?

What a sad concept in view that this is supposed to be a training thread.ranger wrote: "proving and verifying" your training has nothing to do with anything.
It suggests that it is just fine to post a litany of falsehoods and call it training.
"I now row all my strokes at (12 or 13 spi)" is an excellent example.
"I don't take days off" is another
"I'll work my way up to erging 42k a day at 23 spm and 1:48 pace (as a 60 year old)" is most glaring...
Then there's the 6:16 2k stuff...
Sad too that statements like these seem to give ranger a sense of comfort.
I suppose it doesn't matter as no one with any ongoing familiarity with the thread does not believe him anyway.
All ranger "friends"/supporters disappeared from this thread long ago. His "training" as presented here is a fraud.
Is it worth it to have continuous mendacious ranger-rants going on somewhat like a soliloquy? Not in my opinion.

Interesting that you claim to have the best 2K time for your age the last two years. When I look at the rankings for 2011, you're sitting right at #40. If you had pulled WR pace as you claim, wouldn't you hold the WR? I guess exactness doesn't count in poetry. Unfortunately, it does in the real world.
As for me, the 6:21 I pulled last year put me way down at #43 in the rankings for my age/weight. But that was when I was unprepared, rowing poorly and still struggling with technique. I'm much better than that now.

There are many ways to train besides time over distance rowed.
The work I have done on technique has had nothing to do fitness, with the effect of "pieces" done against the clock, time over distance rowed.
It has had to do with getting better at rowing.
My racing will "prove and verify" the effectiveness of my training, my work on technique.
If I pull a FM at 1:48, it could only have been based on _astonishingly_ good training, in fact, just the training I have described.
1:48 for a FM is 12 seconds per 500m (16 _minutes_) under the 60s lwt FM WR, six seconds per 500m (8 _minutes_) better than both the 60s hwt FM WR and my FM pb from 10 years ago.
1:48 for a FM is 2:32, Rob Slocum's long-standing 50s hwt FM WR, which hasn't been touched in a decade.

Racing your training never made anyone better on the erg.
If you race your training, you just get worse and worse.
The evidence for this is overwhelming.
