Well, I've done 2K, 1:37.5 @ 31 spm (12 SPI), without even preparing for it.

Now, I am training for a FM, 1:48 @ 23 spm (12 SPI), although I might loosen that up to 24 spm.

Also it's a row from FOUR YEARS AGO (the date on the PM4 was off by a day compared to the date on his camera 2007-03-16 16:09:26 ).

A 6:30 2K is ruinous?

Sure, I guess so, if your goal is 6:16, as mine is.

Then again, at the time, I didn't prepare for it and was still struggling with technique.

Since then, I have solved my technical problems.

I now row well (13 SPI) at low drag (119 df.).

And I am now preparing to race.

Yes, I know.

So it is not representative of what I can do today.

I am _much_ better than that now.

Over the last four years, I solved the technical problems I was struggling with back in 2007.

I now row well (13 SPI) at low drag (119 df.).

What year was it that you last raced, fully prepared? Seems to me you skipped an entire 5 year age group... "learning to row....

To pull 16 SPI, I have to jack up the drag.

At low drag (119 df.), 13 SPI is more comfortable.

Rowing at high drag and high stroking powers (such as 16 SPI) can be educational, though.

It teaches you various things about generating power.

Give it a try.

You'll see.

Hey, Mike.

Can you do 10 MPS @ 34 spm, 1:28 pace?

Here, I took a slap at it but couldn't quite get it done.

I'll have to try it again now.

1:28 @ 34 spm (10 MPS) is 15.7 SPI.

So you've gone from being a mammoth to a jackalope:

Some people are taught, others learn.
What have you learned? "How to run into other boats" is about it. Avoidance of CRASH_"B" is key!

You bet your bippy I'll not engage in such foolishness.
I am a lightweight who prepares to row as best I can on the water.
The erg is a piece of gym equipment that helps with this. I do not use it in ways that will hurt my OTW chances.
200+ drag is to be used very carefully.

When I max out at 500-1000m, I row no higher than 120 df.

MIke--

What's your limit on 500m @ 10 MPS?

I can clearly do 1:31 @ 33 spm (15 SPI).

In fact, I did 1:30.9 @ 30 spm (15.5 SPI).

Image

I haven't yet done 1:28 @ 34 spm (15.7 SPI), though.

Can you do 1:40 @ 30 spm (11.7 SPI)?

Rich:
Read my lips.

W... H.... Y.... ?....

I do not jack the df up to erg inferior times like that.
I erg just fine and faster at low df and higher rates.
I am many, many lbs lighter than you were when you did that.

Now here's the difficult thing for you to accept: I am faster than you at 500m (Lightweight)...

Throw out the spi gobble-d-gook!
It's has proven wrong.
You have no WR times to show for it....

Yea, I did all of this playing around with high powered sprints when I was just a young pup, fifty-six and a half years old.

You are now an old man of 58.

So these screen shots don't have any relevance to you and yours (except perhaps that everyone in your age and weight division that will challenge you will be younger than fifty-six and a half years old!).

:D :D

Inferior?

Ah.

Then show me a 1:30.9 500m, free rate.

That would be interesting to see.

My 500m target is 1:23.5 @ 50 spm.

Back in 2007, I did the 1:30.9 500m at a restricted rate, 30 spm.

What would you rate now in a 500m trial?

And at what stroking power?
