Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
why not other 12/8 blues shuffle songs?
Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" would be a good choice. Stormy forceful pulses. Heavy down beat.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Ranger - do you have a similar picture rowed at low drag? I sat down to duplicate your force curve exactly (i.e. pixel by pixel), and could only do so at 26spm if the DF was set relatively high (150ish). Given that I'm a bit taller (and therefore have a longer pull distance), it seems that your DF was likely set at 160 or higher in this pic. I would love to see what it looks like now that you are maintaining the same SPI at low drag.ranger wrote: Here is 13.5 SPI, 50% stronger.

The difference is 14 seconds per 500m at the same rate.

Not sure what that has to do with 12/8.
The 12/8 meter has a triple pulse and four tactical beats, so with downbeats every twelve pulses and six pulses to every half-measure.
My stroke cycle is organized around this 12-pulse, 4-beat cycle, with slight variations to get different rates and ratios.
I recover my legs for a six-pulse half-measure, starting from prep position.
The leg drive and back swing (quads-hams-abs) are a three-pulse quarter measure, positioned as a upbeat to the arm pull (lats).
The arm pull and arm recovery plus the recovery of the back (lats-arms-back), makes another three-pulse quarter measure.
So, listening to "Steamroller" keeps my entire stroke cycle right on the beat.
The flow of energy in the meter is exactly the flow of energy in my stroke cycle.

Not sure, but later today, I'll see if I can shoot and post a video of my PM4 for 2K of "Steamrollering," with the music, so you can have it in real time.luckylindy wrote:Ranger - do you have a similar picture rowed at low drag? Nice 20K of "Steamrollering" this morning. Love the new position of the footstretchers. Helps quite a bit.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Yea, actually, this is _very_ good, but it has a duple rather than a triple pulse, so for me, at least, it is not quite as good as "Steamroller," at least while I am still working on technique.mrfit wrote:why not other 12/8 blues shuffle songs?

"Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy," doesn't have a triple pulse, either, but it has a lot of triple phrasing that rides over the duple pulse, so I like it, too.

In this undeleted by the moderator post we observe a question.aharmer wrote:(snip) My question is how you know your training is ready to attempt the marathon? ..... based on the current plan I hope you'll detail for us, are there any estimates as to when the big day might happen?
I notice there has been no answer.
