Re: Ranger's training thread
I have pulled a 2K, 12 SPI @ 32 spm, 6:29.7, but that was still at high drag and unprepared.
I am much better than that now.
I now row well (13 SPI) at low drag (119 df.).
And I am now preparing to race.

Nothing in the last 4 or 5 years would indicate that.ranger wrote:

You have repeatedly offered to post screen shots but fail to deliver.
Interesting!
Sadly, rowing with breaks has only lowered your overall fitness for rowing.
Looking forward, as usual, to your screen shots this weekend.

So, Rich:ranger wrote:
(big snip)
I have been doing 20K of "Steamrollering" every day, followed by 1-2 hours on my bike.
The trial would just put a clock on it.
The clock doesn't change the distance done (20K) or the level of effort (middlin' UT1).
The clock is irrelevant, as far as the training goes.
(big snip)
All this may be true, but is secondary to the claim that you would post one of these ranger training sessions with compete details.
It would take lass than 5 minutes to do and would illustrate your "Steamroller" workout while substantiating your claims somewhat. Why do you insist on being obstructive? Is it because you can turn in a good similar session but cannot hold you HR in the zone? OR, is because you cannot get even close to the claim that you would average 1:46 (or 7) (or 8) (or 9) ...
I am sorry to have broken my regular training program to participate in a friendly agreement that you are now planning to break. You have let me down.
To use words "rowing like shit" is truly sick on your part, and not becoming to a champion. There is such a thing as karma in my appraisal of the world. IMO: Your have just taken a step down....
Back to training: This morning, 15 hrs after doing just one of these 10x2k/1'r, I feel quite tired. It is indeed a taxing workout. I think it's too long for people our age. I cannot imagine anyone in their 60s doing "40k of this daily" and then" adding an hour of biking and then being on his feet for a few hours in the class room (as you claim).
So: Leaving out average pace goals... all this is an impossibility on a week-in week-out basis.
If you truly do these workouts regularly, I now see that this is why you are so slow at 5k TTs. Your glycogen reserves are too low.
It may be fun for you to jerk people around. I fully expected you to let us all down here.... But you had the option to redeem yourself. You seem to want to let that option expire, permanently.... => Your loss! No one believes you do as you say.
In as much as this type of regular workout is a goal of yours, let me point out:
Do you remember that I once was a 2:26:xx marathoner and a 31:xx 10k runner? I think back to how I got there as I believe it applies to good erg training..... A general principle: Stay Fresh: don't wear yourself down with "over-distance". When I adopted this principle two years into heavy training in the 1980's, I went from 2:46 to 2:26 for the 26.2 mile race... >>> Something for all of us to consider, perhaps?
Let me suggest a better workout than the 10x2k/1:00r in a different post.

I have plenty of gas from day to day for my training.
I always feel fresh and ready to row each morning.
I only have trouble with my glycogen levels when I have to cut weight and don't eat.
