Wow, nice friend :-)

I tried one at the Head of the Charles C2 booth, thought it was fantastic. What are your thoughts on the splits? Are they quicker/slower/the same as a regular C2 erg?

Ever wonder what the fish think looking out at you pulling that rope but never getting anywhere? "Man, that guy has a really defective ambulatory mechanism"

The feel between Oartec, Rowperfect, and Concept2 is virtually the same. None are quiet, BUT far more like rowing on the water.

They won't be quicker, because the effort is measured the same way. One thing is sure, if you are big and not fit you will have initial splits that are going to be lower than on the stationary rowing machine... because the big body is not moving back and forth... jut the footboard.

Funny joke about the fish, now you need to hire me to coach your stroke to go faster :-)

Hey Xeno,

How do you think it feels compared to the Rowperfect you used to use and love?

I am not sure the new C2 Dynamic feels that great to me in comparison. Don't you feel that there is a big slip on the legs at the catch? Seems as though they have compromised a lot on the feel to get this design out.

Would like to see some video of you on it.

What are you up to these days?

Regards,

James

Hi Alissa
I stopped!
Focus is on personal coaching which is billed at a premium and products such as the training packages that we offer. Row2go.com is a great platform for group exercise.
How much are you rowing?
Belated happy new year!

Hi James
My future row2go workouts will be on dynamic rowing machines.
Slip occurs because of a need to improve leg to back connection at the catch. The stationary Erg was never conductive to ergonomic rowing technique.

Xeno,

I too am an old Rowperfect die hard and I know that you were going to be the Rowperfect rep there at one stage. I just can't manage the price of a new one.

I have tried the Oartec Slider and C2 dynamic, and seeing the Slider around more and more. Check this video out?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmXwb9L3S7E

Have you tried them all now? Which one would you choose? I would say the Slider has the best feel and rhythm. Same money as the C2.

Is it finally now time for the whole erging world to go dynamic? Read some of the overuse injury posts on this forum and it becomes harder to argue about a sweeping change, rower or non rower.

8 years ago all my C2 were already on slides. Stationary machines are not good for your back if one uses one to relieve ones psychotic need to exercise. Such individuals (me included) will either row hard for a manageable distance or super far, close to 20k and beyond per row.
I tried all the machines and for me the footprint is key, the smaller the better. I also would like a muffler so that the machines are quieter.

Hi Xeno,

I never really appreciated how much I like the slides or dynamic ergs is until a friend with back problems borrowed my slides for a few days. What a difference! I was very happy to get my slides back. My friend bought slides.

I am still using your DVD's just about every day now and will continue until the river unfreezes. They always put me in a good mood and I especially like the extra upper body exercises in some of the videos.

(BTW, Xeno and I are schoolmates. Well, almost. I left Brown before Xeno was born, so we did miss each other by a few years.)

Hi Byron!
Great to hear from you!
It is super great that you keep rowing with those workouts!
Time goes by, I can see it with my children.
I am typing this message as I am holding my 2 year old watching planes land and take off at John Wayne Airport.
Those sliders were key for the use of hamstrings and glut muscle use.
I am glad I found my way back to the forum.

This was the biggest change from static to slides for me is getting the hamstrings and glut muscles really involved. Since I am a rank amateur when it comes to rowing I was using my weight a lot more than I ever realized. After slides my capacity went down and my technique has required much rework to get back the splits I was having. Now splits are as low as they were but I am doing much better building strength even more by using muscle rather than inertia.

I just wonder if going from slides to dynamic would be worth it for me. I am sort of a gadget type person anyway. The footprint does mean something to me where I am set up to workout.

Xeno it is good to see you around and doing well.

The dynamic machine is well worth getting. Putting it together is slightly more involved.
The static machines deliver a workout, but given the choice I will not bother with static anymore.
Funny thing about the dynamic machine is that technique has an even greater effect than on the stationary.
