BTW, in 2002-2003, when I rowed badly (10 SPI) at max drag (200+ df.), I could only do 1:48 @ 22 spm (12.5) at AT (180 bpm), no possibility of steady state, much less at a UT2 HR.
I could only do 5K before my HR went up to max and I had to stop.

A few things stand out:
- He has a month (3.5 weeks) to continue to sharpen, which begs the question, ror just how long has he already been sharpening?
- Despite the debacle at BIRC, ranger still plans on racing as a lightweight. With his D300MDNS (drove 300 miles but did not start) in Indy and his DNR's (did not register) for Toronto, Cincinnati, and Boston this means no heavyweight races after all --unless the weigh-in procedures in Chicago and Detroit aren't lenient enough.
- Forget 6:16, he's focusing on Bailey's 6:42. Not a bad target, since he managed 6:41 last year.
One of the most rational ranger posts in years!

I hope we have forumites in both Chicago and Detroit to make sure that the weigh-in procedures are followed as per CRASH-B guidelines...
Not that I think Rich can get near a 6:41 anyway, but I'd hate for him to take advantage of lenient enforcement to get a WR he doesn't deserve.

The weigh-in doesn't even open until an hour before I race.
The final regatta at Detroit didn't even have a weigh in last year.
Last year, I just brought my own scales and asked one of the officials to weigh me in two hours before I raced and give me a signed statement verifying that this was done.
None of this will matter if I am ready to race, though.
If I am ready to race, I'll row quite a bit faster than I did back in 2002-2003.
If I do, I will put the 60s lwt WR where it will never be broken--by anyone, Eskild included.

As I am a lwt who has raced a lot in the last few years I can tell you categorically that the weigh-in procedures are not strict for us old-sters at most satellite races. This is why Monsieur de Rangé bombs at all the big regattas ever since C2 tightened its standards (post 2003): He can't make legit. weight that close to start time & still have time to rehydrate.
I was hoping he'd make good on his promise last fall to forget about weight issues and just row his best time. I bet he could break 6:40 if he did.

I repeat.
I have raced at Chicago twice.
The weigh-in for my race is _one_ hour before I race.
This is only _half_ the official time, two hours.
At WIRC and BIRC, weigh-ins are _two_ hours before you race.
