Today I have been mostly ironing ahggggg if there was one chore I hate most that is it .......

Training wise more training for the 100k did 16k at 2.13.5 22spm was gonna be 20k but I was leaking.... and felt a bit jaded ... nowt to do with the copious amounts of white wine I drank last night!!!

Got to work a plan out for the 100k .... the current British record is 7hrs 58mins 14 secs ..which is 2.23.4 pace ...so if I get used to doing longer distances at 2.18- 2.20 gives me some leeway when I get up for a quick stretch and drink ..... me thinks it will be harder said than done.......
My goal for now is to row at least 30k a week til I reach another million mark, with at least 1x60 minute row each week, and one half marathon a month. Enough mileage to not get too rusty and work on my speed. Since rowing a marathon at 2:30 was comfortable, now I know I can row faster than my usual 2:30 pace for my daily rows, as long as I warm up 10-15 minutes.

Tuesday:
15 minute warmup, ending at 2:20 pace
30 minutes at 2:20

Today:
15 minute warmup, ending at 2:25 pace
10 km at 2:20

Goal next week:
15 minute warmup, ending at 2:20 pace
60 minutes at 2:20

Next week's row would by a Pb for me--it's in reach.

Happy rowing!

Margaret

It's Sunday, June 26.

I couldn't do the Solstice Row on Tuesday, even though I was all psyched for it. The DH had a day off and decided to work on some "projects." If you could ever see him in action, you'd understand why I can't let him do this kind of stuff unsupervised! Like, he wanted to shampoo the carpet without picking up stuff and vacuuming first, spraying for weeds without weedwhacking first so you don't end up using eight times more than the amount of pesticide that you really need, etc. Even with me dogging his heels, I still missed the fact that he left the stepladder outside by the garage--someone could've stolen it, or worse, some kid could've climbed up on the roof.

Anyway, I got in 21,558 meters in three chunks (with two 15-minute incoming phone call breaks in between). I was standing up earlier as I typed this--I have one achey bottom, but the bubblewrap thing sure helps. This is definitely the longest I've ever rowed in a day. I think my last highest was around 11,000m.

This duck has training wheels, but I'm still a duck!

--Jen
I'm mixing in a lot of biking with the rowing to prepare for a century charity ride on July 24. Today's plan was 3 x 25 miles, the first two suppposed to be around 14 mph, the last one with husband to keep me going as the furthest I've biked yet is 54 miles or so. But I went out too fast, not pushing but just where I was pretty comfortable and finished the first 25 with an avg of 15.9. I set out on the second one and pretty soon realized that there was going to be a huge thunderstorm and the third go wasn't going to happen so I pushed it and the total ride averaged 15.6. I really felt dreadful afterwards. It was 94 degrees and over 90% humidity and I was just sapped when I got home. I have to find someone who can go the whole distance with me that will keep me at 14 so I can work the miles up because I know there is just no way in the world I can keep that pace up for 75 or 100 miles. Or maybe get my two sons and husband to each go a 25 mile leg with me. But alone I just haven't been succesful at keeping the pace slow enough to go the distance.

It is getting more and more tempting to upgrade from this relatively heavy (37 lbs) bike to a more modern one that would weigh say 20 lbs. If I do that, I will still ride this one to train and the light one when I wanted to keep up with the fast riders--I'm pretty sure I would average 18--20 mph instead of 15--17 mph on a lighter machine.

Big concert to play July 3 (with fireworks! ) so probably not a lot more rowing this week--too much music to learn in too short a time.
This past week, I managed to get in 93 km of cumulative activity (not counting riding my horse, which is about 5 hours per week in the saddle):

44 km of running (steady mileage)
25 km of rowing (steady 2:30-2:40 pace, but I'm starting to add 3-4 repeats of "hard 25s" after a 15-20 min warmup during each session, as part of interval training)
25 km of cycling (steady, single trip - these are my "easy" workout days)

This weekend, I've been feeling a bit of pain in my left calf, so I cooled my jets on the running and instead did about 18000 m of rowing and beefed up the cycling to 68 km over the past two days.

I do a lot of very long workouts and cross-training, because I'm training to run the Toronto Half Marathon in October, and this is my "building endurance and base mileage" phase. I haven't started structured speedwork and hill training yet.

And.... I've just realized only this morning (while checking my online logbook) that I've put > 1, 094, 000 m behind me on the C2!!

Cheers all, and happy rowing!
M.
