Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
My daughter suffers from a disorder called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). It affects teenage girls causing fatigue, passing out and a multitude of other symptoms. A physician that works with this disorder and others similar to it recommend rowing as part of the treatment. I just bought a model E for her and I am excited about the possible benefits. Does anyone out there have experience with this disorder or the use of rowing as a treatment? Thanks!
Re: Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
My 11 y/o daughter has POTs as well . . . symptomatic for about 3-4 years, diagnosed for about 2 years ago. Symptoms, aside from the usual very high heart rate when going from laying/sitting to standing, include nausea, headache, low energy at time, easy fatigue in the heat with activity, and one instance of passing out while standing. Level 1 treatment as recommended by her pediatric cardiologist has been about 6 180mg sodium tabs / day with lots of water, which has made a positive difference. Physical conditioning seems to help, too. She swims, which seems to be an excellent fit for POTs symptoms given that your horizontal most of the time, does some rowing on my C2 and also some treadmill running. Her symptoms seem to be better this year than last, although hard to say whether that's the treatment, conditioning or just her outgrowing it to some degree.
