Scull for Fun and Exercise

No, ergs don't yet float, but some of us do, and here's where you get to discuss that other form of rowing.

Scull for Fun and Exercise

Post by ulu » January 23rd, 2011, 5:53 pm

I am looking for a scull for fun and exercise. It does not have to be super fast, it is unlikely I would use it in an on the water race.
I found this online - TS515

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Is there something like this in North America?

Hi Jim,
Another approach is to use a lightweight racing shell with stabilizers attached under the oarlocks. If they are touching the water then you will be stable and you can avoid the heavier, wide bottomed boats. I made my stabilizers out of coroplast (sign material) so they weigh next to nothing. I keep them a little above the water. I have tested them in warm water and it is just about impossible to flip with them attached. However, I assume I can go in anyway so I dress like a cold water kayaker with a dry top, dry pants, and a PFD. One of life's pleasures is to stop for coffee and a donut during a snow fall.

I bought a used Alden recreational single and have enjoyed it greatly. Not a speed demon but stable and a fun way to workout.
