Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I am closing my Overcoming Disabilities Aff. team and told my teammates to choose another team. I am so happy that many of them chose "The Luna-Tics". I found out the other day I am dealing with MS on top of my stroke problems and it has left me a little scared, tired, frustrated, anxious, depressed, etc. I will overcome this. And to top it all off, my son Jay is way ahead of me in the challenge We will finish the challenge strong and don't forget Jan owes me and the Cubs some high praise.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 1.21.11
Welcome to our new, and in some cases, returning teammates. As always, we welcome rowers of all abilities for as long as they wish to stay and row with us. Jim's new challenge of MS really hit home with me today. I wasn't going to participate in the BikeMS challenge this year because I had underprepared last year and hadn't done as well as I'd wanted to do. I had to rethink that thought once I read Jim's words about his challenges - because if he, and many others on our team, are facing those kinds of challenges in their daily lives - I think maybe I can focus a little more on training better. Rowing is a great cross-training exercise! Life has a way of suggesting that we find ways to do things that are important to us - and important to our friends.
I thought my spreadsheet was going nuts this morning - every time I updated the sheet, cross-checks would say that we had more meters....and new team members. Suddenly the moon looks VERY CLOSE. Like within 3 million meters. I'm not sure that we're quite lined up with the Sea of Tranquility - our chosen lunar landing spot, so I believe we need to orbit the moon a few times. Here's the deal: we're in the middle (okay, last third) of a challenge, and we can't really stop and party like a lunar landing should be celebrated, so what I would propose is that we wait until the end of the challenge and see where we are meter-wise. Then we should have an end of challenge team room party, AND celebrate our lunar landing. At the end of the rowing year (April 30th), when many are collecting their full marathon or half marathon awards, we can put the Lunar Mission into our team record books as Mission Accomplished. As astrogator, I've got to work up a new navigational course for us. How's that sound?

Re: All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 1.21.11
First, a hearty welcome to our teammates. With your meters we are now ahead of the Ancient Mariners on the Affiliation page. The Ancient Mariners, with their staggering average meters/team member, is an awesome team to compete with . . . My two cents is that we schedule our landing sometime after celebrating our VTC accomplishments . . . We'll need our wits about us to man the LUNAtic Lunar Lander
I'm sure that as our Astrogator you know this already, but as a 'know-it-all' I need to tell you:
- - Moon's diameter=3476 km
- - The Appollo missions orbited at an elevation of 60 miles (96.56km)
- - Orbit of moon at 60 mile elevation=3669.12km X pi=11526.91km
And, by the way, the Apollo 14 landed on the moon February 5, 1971, so this year would be the 40th anniversary of that landing.
As our Astrogator and head cheerleader, you'll know the best time to land.
. . . Are we there yet? Huh! Huh! Are we there yet?
HOOYAH! VTC Million Meters!

Moon landing -
Hey Jan, My vote would be to celebrate the landing whenever that may be. IF it happens in the JVC that would honor those people who have helped us in the January challenge but who are not part of our regular team as I think we count their meters too.
I understand, however, that with all the extra work you are posting during the challenge that this adds one more things and it will be ok if we wait.
Have you (or anyone) emailed Concept2 about our moon landing? They might like to put an article in their newsletter about it.

We are honored to have you and any of your teammates join the Lunatics. I am sorry to hear about the added stress of MS on top of the stroke. You are and always will be a LUNAtic and that means you are full of strength, determination, and a willingness to succeed. You have a ton of supporters behind you! All the best!
