Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Double coincidence...My better half had Graceland playing on the stereo when I got home today. "You can call me Al" is one of my favorites, great beat for rowing.
Curious to know if others row to the beat of music. If so, what are some favorites?

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I put a playlist together for rowing a couple of years ago - it's pretty crazy. Everything from old surfer songs to ZZ top - and definitely including....wiiiiiiipe out. Most of the time I listen to audiobooks while I row, though.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I've been watching old movies lately while I row. Tonight it was "Smokey and the Bandit". You know... "we got a long way to go and a short time to get there, we're gonna do what they said can't be done!"
HA!
HA!
Virtual Reality: Day 15/16
97 Rowers in the Armoonda!
At the stroke of midnight, our roster will be set....and hooboy! Now the work begins! Get into those canoes, put on your water wings, and grab those paddles....the virtual competitive waters are churning with activity. Gaps between teams will change almost hourly -- and you will be stunned every so often (it's okay - it's good for us!). This is all about being the best that WE can be....win, show or place.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 1.14.11
79 Million Team Meters!!
Simply AMAZING amounts of meters being rowed! Milestones BLAZING across the rowing universe! Seat swapping in those canoes going on like crazy - and the mooning! Gadzooks...you'd think it was summer somewhere! But no...deep in the frozen winter, some canoes are struggling to get through the ice! Thanks to all for making an extra effort to get to the gym when the weather is not making this an easy task! And for those lucky enough to have an erg in their homes....way to hunker down! 727,138 m on a day! Whew!
Total meters to lunar landing = 16,048,907 m*
Season meters as of 259/365 = 79,189,201 m
Total meters on the day = 727,138 m
Oars in space (participation) = 25 percent....and if 25 percent can generate 0.7 MM.....well, then...the math is there.

* This number decreased less than our total meters on the day because we lost a team member, Kevin R (and we wish him well wherever he lands). When team members leave....their meters go also. So, as a reminder, unless an individual stays on the team until the year closes, we can't count meters towards the moon....and this is just a placeholder until 5.1.11. Rats, there's always a caveat, isn't there??! To the moon! It's not for the faint of heart!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
In response to what to listen to while erging - I like to have at least a few songs that keep me thinking about technique and stroke rate. There are a couple of ZZ Top songs that are good for 24 spm - TV Dinners and I Need You Tonight. Moby's Extreme Ways is good for about 25, as is Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs. I also rotate in a lot of Mountain, Foghat, and Neal Young, seasoned with Jimi Hendrix, Garbage, The Smithereens, and a whole lot of singles. I'm rowing at the Y, so most days I have to drown out Oprah, Glen Beck, and Rome is Burning!
Another Canoe
................................. George Wyner ...................................
Congratulations, George (in tribal disguise), on achieving 100,000 m in the Virtual Team Challenge and climbing into your canoe! May your canoe travel swiftly to the 200,000 m milestone so you can snag your canoe paddle!
Re: Einstein's in the canoe!
Woohoo! I don't know whether to cheer more for Dalton, Einstein, or AJ so I'll cheer for all of them! Hip hip hooray! We're not nearly done with this competition....we're just getting started! But most of the fun is the company we keep along the journey! Hooyah, teammates!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Ethan and Ashlee are music lovers and listen to oldies as I row and also in the car when Bobbie brings them home from school. Needless to say, they are probably the only 4 and 5 year olds who know the words to all the Beatles songs. Yesterday when I was rowing, I had Van Morrison's greatest hits cd in. Ethan loves "Brown Eyed Girl" and when it gets to the part where he sings" Sha la la la etc, just like that", Ethan gets down and really sings it out. After that part, he turned to me and said " Gramps, I think that parts Spanish" I cracked up and had to stop my row.Kona2 wrote:I put a playlist together for rowing a couple of years ago - it's pretty crazy.
