Andre,
That's the reason I got into erging too. I was running quite a bit before getting a stress fracture in my foot. Rowing is a great compliment for running. Congrats on your 60' PR.

Figured I would ring in the New Year with an attempt at a longer distance PB. I'm happy to say that I rowed a 10,000 in 39:18.1! This time smashes my old PB of 43:21, thanks to this website and the people on it my times have steadily gone down. :D

I promised myself I would attempt a 2km under 7 minutes "before the end of the year".

Well, today is 2011 but I just didn't have time during the holidays. Cross country skiing, speed skating ... :-)

This evenng I managed a 6:59.9 (1:44.1, 1:45.0, 1:45.5, 1:45.3). I rowed the first 1500 in 29spm, then went up to 31 and to 34spm in the last 200m. The plan was to row 1:44, 1:45, 1:45, 1:44 but at 800m to go I started seeing 1:46 on the monitor and started to lose hope. Somehow managed to keep the number of strokes at 1:46 and 1:47 to a minimum by increasing stroke rate, and in the last 200m even managed to go back down to 1:44@34spm. Still coughing. :-)

My previous personal best was 7:10.8 in October.

Congrats on sub 7:00 sander! You were close enough to your goal of getting it done by 2010. Well done. :D

Congratulations. I'll try to go under that soon. Then you row 2000m in 6:55. :D

I surprised myself again!
Keep trying to get into, and stay in, the Top 10 for the HM in my age group, but people won't cooperate. Thought I had a Top 10 for the year when I went sub-1:20 (1:19:49.8), figuring that all of last year only twelve 50-59M HWs broke 1:20. Well, apparently there's a better crop this year, so I was pushed over time from 7th to 13th.

So, last night I tried for 1:19:30, rowing on RowPro against my PB (1:53.3 pace) & a second 1:53 pace boat. I ended up holding 1:52.1 for almost an hour (passed the hour mark at 16,027m, which would best my 16,009 PB), and coming in at 1:52.4... 1:19:06.3!!! Now I'm back in 7th Place. P.S. That's 205s faster than my PB at the end of last year!

Earlier in the week, I improved my 30:00 PB from 8,126m to 8,297m. I was only aiming for 8,200...

Oops, I did it again :-).

Yesterday started out for a strong but relaxed 60 minutes and ended up adding 100 meters to my PB.... 14.163 meters now. It's tempting to think about 15 k, but I will have to do more then two sessions a week to get there (if ever).

Still, happy oldie here!

So after begining to erg in Septeber of 2010 my goal of breaking 7:00 in the 2K was achieved today!

1:44.9 @ 29 SPM

1:44.6 @ 30 SPM

1:44.9 @ 29 SPM

1:44.1 @ 29 SPM

I went out hoping to do my splits in 1:45, 1:44, 1:45, 1:44. I came about as close as I could to doing that and I am very pleased with how I paced the race out. Strangely enough now that I look at my SPM it seems a bit low, but it felt so "natural" I don't really know how to explain it, my understanding is that elite rowers race at about 35-40 SPM (maybe somebody can correct me if I'm wrong?). I don't think I could have the same power at that rate so I certainly see room for improvement.

Thanks to all here on the Concept 2 forums who gave me tips along the way!!! :D

4 minute PB as part of the Concept 2 Monday night race series.

1194M 1:40.5 ave at 26spm

Not too bad considering there was a 1 minute sprint before and after this to allow for as well.

Wow, great row. By the way, an interesting way to do the splits. I've never seen anyone going out with such a plan, but it might make sense to allow yourself to ease up a bit in the 3rd split.

I was supposed to do a 4x2K interval workout today, but after I did my warmup, I just was not in the mood. So I set the PM for a 10K and went for it. I didn't remember exactly what my previous PB was, so I aimed at 1:55 splits and no rate cap. I settled into a groove at about 1:54 and 25 SPM and ended up with a PB

10000 - 38:08.4 - 1:54.4

My old PB was 38:11.7 (1:54.6). A modest improvement, but any PB is welcome these days.

2K erg test!
6:57.2 (1:43.4; 1:44.3; 1:45.3; 1:44.3). Previous best was 6:58.6 on 12/8/10.
