TimbukTOO Team Room
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Brenda H - 5,816 Another good strong row! (And another horsewoman! Yay!)
Keep up the great work everyone!
Brenda H. Here....Damselfly, Glad you appreciate a good horse under you! That is my non-virtual sport to keep my "so called" sanity. I thought I would submit a picture of a mud hole since we are ROWERS! I have NO sanity-I have 2 horses. GO TEAM GO!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hello, Timbukians! I recently joined the team to participate in the challenge. I guess I ought to declare a goal. Life may intervene, but if possible I'll attempt to log 250Km (I managed 205Km+ in the Holliday challenge). I have about 140Km to go to my first 1 million meters.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to participate!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Welcome, mathineer!! Great to have you for the VTC! Have you joined our year-round affiliation? Love to have you there too if you're not already!
Adam, good luck with the move AND the new job! Unpack the erg first to help alleviate all that nasty stress... A little rowing makes a lot of sanity.
Brenda, I had my own horses when growing up in Illinois. Miss them so. Have ridden on and off over the years here in SoCal, but not being one of the independently weathy folks here, it's hard to afford even leasing. Give your horses a big hug and inhale some of that wonderful horse essence for me. *Sigh*.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
The Challenge is well underway- and so far I have been able to keep up on my " pledge".
15K -3 days a week- in 3 -5K sessions per workout- is daunting.
There are a few days this past week that I dreaded getting out of bed and going to the gym- but I did get up and go.
I actually started this routine in the last week of 2010- have done just 6 15K sessions- but it is already yielding results.
I hit a PR today for 5K- 21:38, which is still below the 50th percentile in my age group. But it is 21 seconds faster than my previous PR.
And I now have time 2 days per week when I am working on assistance exercises and light cardio.
Unstructured and structured workouts can each yield positive results.
I was relatively physically fit before this change in routine.
The structured routine is allowing for me to improve my times and row harder for longer-
So I will be more fit for the time that I maintain this routine and until the benefit of the hard work fades.
Obsessive-Compulsive? - no doubt.
But it has meaning for me as I stumble through my 64th year.
My immediate goal is still a sub 8 minute 2K.
To put that in perspective, I was talking to the 20 year old son of a friend.
The son rows for a local University.
I asked what his first 2K time was, when he first started rowing and he told me that it was in the low 7 minute range. Now he is in the low 6 minute range.
This reminds of a lyric from a bad song from the 70's- my girl is red hot- your girl aint doodly squat.
But my goal is my goal.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
There you are, Izz! I was just about to send out the Coast Guard.
I will be capturing meters a little late tonight (at my Mom's for dinner), so that gives everyone time to get in some more rowing! I'll try to get them at 8PM PST.
