Whoa, Team! You maka my head spin! A couple of days off the computer during this challenge, and things are going crazy! Can't believe all the meters everyone is churning out. Many congratulations are in order. Welcome to new team mates, and forum participants. So glad to have you with us.

Get well soon, Doctor Dan. I am on my final 2 days of antibiotics - trying to slip some meters in anyways, and so far, so good.

AJ, you are outdoing yourself in creativity. Thanks for the time you are putting in to this. I'm dying to know HOW you are doing it.

Virtual Reality: The Armada Grows!

Post by Kona2 » January 5th, 2011, 11:20 am

It's with great anticipation that the team standings - and the individual rowing numbers that drive those standings - are checked! Here we are through day 4 (and through day 5 for certain portions of our rowing universe!), and we have TWO more canoes to bless and mighty rowers to pilot them. The Luna Armada grows to SEVEN! And, at least for now, we move back into the number TWO spot in the standings. Whoop! Whoop! Luna Tribe rowing!

1 Age Without Limits Virtual Club 7,238,903
2 LUNA-TICS Virtual Club 2,806,164....... 89 team members!
3 Free Spirits Virtual Club 2,712,046

5 ARIEL TOY Virtual Club 1,865,770

.............................Jay Kielma Jr......................................

Congratulations, Jay, on attaining 100,000 m (and then some) in the Virtual Team Challenge, and ditching the bike for the canoe! It is off-season, after all! May your canoe guide you to victory in the intra-family challenge!

..............................Minnie aka Chris Tudury.........................

Congratulations, Chris, on attaining 100,000 m (plus some) in the Virtual Team Challenge, and claiming your canoe! May your canoe carry you through many moons!

Meanwhile, Ray is drawing ever closer to grabbing a paddle! Hooboy! We think he's pretty swift now! Good progress being made by the Luna Tribe members who've made it to the canoe launching site. Looks like we still have almost 20 percent who are making their way to the canoe launching shores from wherever they are in the rowing universe! We're on 82 percent Luna power....just think where we could be with 100 percent!! Row what you think you can...and then a little more!!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.

Post by Johnny Murden » January 5th, 2011, 11:46 am

Hi Folks:

Row to the moon, why not. As a civil & environmental engineering professor for the last 21 years, I constantly throw crazy things out to my students: you have heard of the concrete canoes, right? The stint I did with an aerospace firm before I began teaching, lured me to the Luna-Tics. I lurked a bit, then decided to jump in. You guys look like supportive, fun group. So Sunday I joined the team for the VTC.

I've only been rowing since the end of December 2010. Started after watching my son row (on the water) with his high school crew team. Bought C2E at Christmas to help him train and I got hooked. I've now got a way to get in better shape, keep weight off, and deal with stress.

Kendo, Backpacking, mountain biking, boating, fishing are things I enjoy. Rats! All on hold for almost 2 years while recovering from injuries, an illness and complications from the meds.

But hey, life is good because I still get to hang out with my wife, watch our son row for the high school crew team, our daughter play high school volley ball, and our 2 crazy salukis romp around the house.

Personal fitness goals for 2011:
Get weight down to the 160 lb I was in college as a varsity saber fencer long, long ago.
Row at least 2,000,000m by 31 Dec 2011.
Row a 5000m piece within 10% of my son's time.

70 Million Team Meters!!

Congratulations, Lunas! We've rowed 70 million team meters thus far for the season! Seems like an appropriate time to again bring up the lesser known fact that for the last few seasons, we've averaged a cool million meters per team member! Don't panic if you're not a long distance rower....these meters add up....and some how, some way it just happens that we make that astounding average. Just saying that so we'll row some really really good meters between now and April 30th! (No pressure  ) I'll bet our new team members could easily be at half a million or three-quarters of a million lifetime meters by then! Woot! We have yet to fully understand our collective power! :D

Wonder what will happen today in Luna-ville?! So far we have another million in the team meter piggy bank, a new team member, a red giant, and eight half moons! Add this to the stellar performances of all who rowed, and we're set for a terrific day! For those wrestling with how to fit all this rowing in now that work or school is back in session....ah....that's indeed what makes the challenges unpredictable. We're out to make this a good habit to have....row, row..row some more!

Season meters as of 249/365 = 70,326,997 m

Total meters on the day = 577,321 m (this astrogator could get SO spoiled by seeing a cool half million every day :D :D )

Oars in space (participation) = 37 percent

For those who are curious, if we don't have a team profile photo - or there isn't one listed on your profile if you're a virtual challenge team member, the Luna Tribesman/woman shown above is what AJ has to work from. These are our generic native Lunas!

You "Looneys" may pass 3 million today in the challege  Go for it, as Rocky told Clubber Lane in "Rocky 3" Hey, Robyn looks very "imposing" in her canoe.
I have emailed Jay that his health club is closed for repairs today so he can't do his evening row
