Re: Model B Best of the Best
It seems the fish scale I used to weigh the flywheels has been exagerating the weight of my catches. I'll put it back in my tackle box and replace it as soon as possible (wink, wink).
Re: Model B Best of the Best
Bob,
The 1-10 scale (actually there are an infinite number of positions, but we won't go there) is somewhat arbitrary and really only serves as a rough reference for your drag setting. The best way to set the drag, as you probably know, is by viewing the drag factor on the monitor and moving the damper to achieve a desired drag factor. This is one reason for de-emphasizing the numbers. The other reason is that novices will often take a "bigger is better" approach and assume that 10 is the best setting. Personally, I argued for something other than a 1-10 scale- letters, colors, iconic animals, etc., but the simplicity of 1-10 won out. It should also be noted that the B/C/D/E comparison chart is an aproximation that should be used only as a rough guideline. C2JonW

Yeah, I considered that too. In fact I used it once in a response to someone who complained that the C2 machines had only 10 settings.c2jonw wrote:Bob,

Your response makes sense to me, but I am still wondering if (and why) the almost unreadable numbers are deliberate.
While I am at it, I have another question. Did C2 ever consider a bracket to use for joining a pair of slides at the correct distance and properly aligned? I recently described such a device that I had a welder friend make for that purpose. It is an 18.5' square of angle iron welded and braced at the corners. I didn't want to drill holes in the frames of the slides, so I use C-clamps to join the slides to the square.

Re: Model B Best of the Best
yes, we considered some alignment means but opted not to provide this because aligning the frames is pretty simple and not particularly critical. We have on our To Do list a review and possible redesign of the Slides which would incorporate simplifying the setup. Gotta get the new Dynamic machine settled first.......C2JonWWhile I am at it, I have another question. The Bs were produced from 1986-1993, but specific sales volume figures are proprietary information. C2JonWC2jonw, any idea how many Model B rowers were produced? thanks

That reminded me of a line from the Movie "10."
It can be found in Wiki-p.:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10_(film)#cite_note-2 Note: the link doesn't work because the blue underline gets cut off short of the end of the line. (Fixed by wrapping it in )
if you scroll down to "Cultural Impact."
Cultural impact
The title derives from a rating system used by people to rank members of the opposite sex based upon beauty, with a 10 being the epitome of attractiveness. It came into common usage as a result of this film. In the film, Bo Derek's character ranks in Moore's eyes as an "11."
I wonder if "infinite number of positions" applies here?

Re: Model B Best of the Best
If the C2 rower had been designed by Spinal Tap the scale would have gone from zero to eleven.

Such a shame that some copyright issues prevent me from seeing any info about that YouTube video.Yankeerunner wrote:

I just want to add myself to the Model B enthusiasts. I used a C at the gym several years ago, and thought if I could find an affordable one of those I'd quit the gym. Well, it was out of sequence, but my B cost me $75, and hadn't been used much at all. Using the info on this forum I've made a speed ring which has helped a ton. I think I've been rowing at about 180 (700k), and now I'm closer to 130, nice change! Thanks for the information.

Re: Model B Best of the Best
On the Model B I use the 15 tooth gear and the vents closed and I find this is the perfect resistance(drag factor). Does anyone know the exact DF at this parameter?

Re: Model B Best of the Best
According to the comparison chart: http://www.concept2.com/us/support/manu ... arison.pdf, it would be about 125, but there are lots of variables and your monitor may read something entirely different. DF on a model B doesn't really set the resistance "feel" to be the same as a model C or D and with the two gear sizes, you'll get two different resistances but with the same drag factor. I have a home made speed ring on my B and when the monitor reads a DF of 150 it feels about the same as my C with the DF at 125. DF on a B is not as useful, just go with the feel.
