Hey all,

New to the forum and everything and I need some advice. Someone out there has to have something to say about setting up a program to get that 2k score down!

Normally, I wouldn't worry about it so much but my acceptance to a rowing club in the fall when I return to New York is contingent on my ability to best the minimally acceptable erg score of 7.20.

I'm just a few months back to rowing after a break of 5 years (rowed as a young one, developed chondromalacia patellae, had to quit until I grew up some) and I've gotten my score down pretty consistently since starting again. Now I'm just worried about plateauing or letting the work drop off when team training finishes in 3 weeks.

Right now I'm at 7.37 and I can do it, I will do it, but any advice anyone has on getting it down, good interval training or anything, would be much appreciated!

Thanks all!

Take a look at the C2 UK Interactive Training Program. It is simple to use, the advice is sound and it will let you design a custom training plan that fits your current level of fitness and time horizon. A superb resource.

Since this is the "Womens Forum", I'm curious, what kind of club has a minimum standard for women of a 7:20 2k? I could see this for guys, but seems a bit aggressive for gals..

Thanks bunches, checked out the interactive training plan and showed it to my coach and he said that is a really sound solid program that will help me on my way. So it looks like that's the plan for now! If I'm still in the 7.30's at the beginning of August, that's when I'll start to panic.

The club is indeed NYAC which I am acutely aware may very well spit on my application and laugh cruelly before feeding it to the seagulls, regardless of my being sub 7.20 or otherwise. However, I figured it was worth a shot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Besides, my options in NY are limited so I may as well explore all of them and make myself technically eligible. And at least it gives me a concrete goal and deadline and no matter where I end up rowing a sub 7.20 2k would be a rockin' thing to have!

PaulS, you may indeed call me B if you like. The nickname is one I've had for ages in the rowing world. It stems from the first 2k test I did when I joined my high school team when I was 14. I had been rowing and erging for 4 years, so when I sat down to it with all of the other new girls, all novices, I was the only person who knew what they were doing. I made myself sick doing it and everyone was sort of shocked. One girl, who would became the team comedian and one of my best friends, exclaimed when I'd finished, "Jesus, she's just...a BEAST!" and it stuck.

I can't imagine these kids gettign to college and having 4+ years experience in Rowing, most of us didn't get that much while in college.

Remember to put in a good dose of 500M work to get used to the paces that you are after. Once you can get a 500M time of 1:39 or better, you have plenty of strength (for this goal), but then need to work on endurance (most everyone needs the endurance work).

Do you have your recent times for the standard distances? 2k, 5k, 6k?

Good luck in cracking the nut!

Thanks Carolmac and PaulS!

It's really nice to be encouraged.

I've added the interactive plan to my weight training and water time workout schedule, it fits in quite nicely, actually. I am really optimistic about the project and the summer racing season (Women's Henley in 2 weeks, then I'll be rockin' a monster 4+ and a 2x with an Oxford Blue for the rest of the summer).

I'll be sure to keep you updated and again thanks so very much for the support!
