Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I didn't even think I could finish one yet (figured I'd stop at 30K but it would be good experience), I thought I'd be lucky if I broke 3 hours - but I even broke 2:50! ...and like an idiot, still in pain, I just did an HM today (1:21:24) against the same sadistic guys... I EARNED my day off!
I'm in entirely uncharted territory for my 51yo body, as I work towards the CRASH-Bs. A good month used to be 150K (all quality meters, 2:05 or better), with the average 115K. These are my last 6 months:
July - 125K
Aug - 138K
Sep - 201K
Oct - 217K
Nov - 249K
Dec - 334K
So, although some of my warm-up and cool down meters are from 2:15 - 2:28, and my long rows generally 1:59-2:03 as per top coaches recommendations, I'm also doing more 1:40 - 1:50 meters & some 1:33 pulls, so my 3rd million wasn't that much slower than my 2nd.
So, ironically, I may cut back my meters a bit for January because I progressed too quickly quantity-wise from Nov. to Dec., & I'm not interested in injury or overtraining.
My next FM, I want to be ready for: A weekly long row around 35K leading up to it, energy bars, sipping cups, (gloves?), etc.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Wow, Karen, you weren't even in my rear-view mirror for 100K! Amazing! I think it puts you over a half-million meters for the year too! Enjoy the Holidays, and have an easy move! (Let the movers pack your glass, china & crystal.)
Gary, to be "fit", you need 5K x 3 weekly. That's about 65K/mth. Doing 3 times that for a few months will put you squarely in 8:00-/2K territory.
Another tip: In the middle of your rows, every 5 minutes or more, throw in a "Power 20" - 20 all-out sprinting strokes. You'll be gasping, but don't stop - just slow it down enough that you can catch your breath and continue. That will give you "the guns" - and the lung capacity - you need to push out faster times.
Dennis, I hope your soreness is "good soreness" - increased ability, strength, co-ordination, fitness, etc. 200K coming back from a stroke is amazing!
Probably, your best bet is working towards being "dead-center". (People who row in team boats on the water have to be careful not even to lean, as it can upset that very delicate balance of 4 or 8 people taking oarstokes in unison. So, while erging, they work to stay perfectly centered on the Concept 2 - so they waste no energy on right-to-left movement, just front-to-back, and stay ready for the water.) Watch that the chain is centered, the handle isn't tilting, both legs are pushing back, your body isn't twisting at the end of the stroke, both arms in the same end position, etc. That will help the left side of your body get back close to full strength, and be closely coordinated with your right side. And all the extra fitness will help cut down on such events recurring!
Great work!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Do you mean 15K 3 x per week ( in the form of 3- 5K rows in one session ) performed 3 days per week?Gary, to be "fit", you need 5K x 3 weekly. That's about 65K/mth. Doing 3 times that for a few months will put you squarely in 8:00-/2K territory.
I could do that.
How much rest between each 5K row?
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Wahoo! The holiday challenge is done for me! Just finished the 100k. It's nowhere near what some of you have accomplished this month, but for going from pretty much zero, I'm happy with myself. Now I just need something to tide me over until the VTC starts... time to set a personal goal! I'm thinking one random workout from the concept2 website per day. Sound reasonable?
Congratulations to all, and Merry Christmas!

Pam and I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! This is a very motivating group which makes everything even more enjoyable! We're both having fun with our new "torture machine" and look forward to many, many more meters of erging fun!

Happy Holidays to all... Brenda (she just signed up last night with the Team) and myself want to wish you a good day and bring in a good year of prosperity.
Looks like a lot to celebrate( I took a day off rowing with a bottle of wine)... Brenda is cancer free after her fight this year with breast cancer ...I'm in good pain because the rower is allowing pain where pain did not exist before from the stroke due to paralysis. I hope that all your confrontations of life turn in to positives that can be looked back upon with smiles.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Robyn & Kat were nice enough to wait until the Holiday Challenge was over to change teams, and for that we're appreciative. However, losing their combined 3 million meters sank us temporarily from the #10 slot to #12!
Milestones: John hit 4.3M, Matt hit 1.1M, Gary reached O N E M I L L I O N
M E T E R S! (And Yisroel broke the 6:50 barrier for the 2K!)
So close: Bryan inches from 1.5M, Daiva even closer to 400K, Joel close to 200K!
After yesterday's total of 2 rowers, enough people decided they needed to undo some of the damage done at the festive meals. A nice 12 of our 51 TimbukTOOians had their oars in the water Sunday, 24%, adding 148,826 meters!
John S 30,533
Yisroel H 22,693 A 6:48.6/2K!
Joel W 15,785
Matthew R 14,073 1.1MM...Nice!
Fred B 12,984
Pam S 11,689 I'm impressed!
Dennis H 10,118
Gary G 10,043 A cool MILLION!!!
Barbara B 6,908
Mark S 6,000
Daiva S 5,000
Alison H 3,000
Please remember to add any meters rowed during the challenge on the correct days, so that they can used to add to the over $26,300 already raised! Only a few days left to enter them!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Izzie,
That is 1:42 per 500 meters for the 2K- that is rowing with power.
It seems unattainable to me.
Go to the head of the class.
