Hey Ross - best of luck with your shoulder surgery. Glad to see a fellow member of the "zipper club" rowing with the Luna-Tics. I am coming up on my second anniversary following my open heart surgery. Rowing with this team has helped alot with my rehab. Sadly I also will not be rowing in the January challenge. I tried coming back a little too soon with broken ribs and set myself back a couple months. Don't let it happen to you. Slow and steady wins the race.

Best of luck

Rich
Thanks, Rich. The surgery yesterday went well

Ross, i am so glad all went well with your surgery.Take your pain meds and do what the docs say. I imagine you will soon be doing PT. Please do whatever they say . When my wife had her knee replacement she did ,and all is progressing nicely. Some knuckleheads (me) think they are smarter than PT's and tried on their own. Guess who had problems after his stroke, back surgery and knee surgery? You think I would learn? Uhhhh, nope.
Very happy all went well for you. have a Happy Christmas.

T’was the night before Christmas; there wasn’t a sound.
Not a possum was stirring; no-one was around.
We’d left on the table some tucker and beer,
Hoping that Santa Claus soon would be here;

We children were snuggled up safe in our beds,
While dreams of pavlova danced ‘round in our heads;
And Mum in her nightie and Dad in his shorts,
Had just settled down to watch TV Sports,

When outside the house a mad ruckus arose;
Loud squeaking and banging woke us from our doze.
We ran to the door, peeked cautiously out,
Snuck onto the deck, then let out a shout.

Guess what had woken us up from our snooze,
But a rusty old ute pulled by eight mighty ‘roos.
The cheerful man driving was giggling with glee,
And we both knew at once who this plump bloke must be.

Now, I’m telling the truth – it’s all dinki-di,
Those eight kangaroos fairly soared through the sky.
Santa leaned out to pull at the reins,
And encouraged the ‘roos by calling their names.

‘Now, Kylie! Now, Kirsty! Now, Shazza and Shane!
On, Kipper! On, Skipper! On, Bazza and Wayne!
Park up on that water tank, grab a quick drink,
I’ll scoot down the gum tree, be back in a wink!’

So up to the tank those kangaroos flew,
With the ute full of toys, and Santa Claus too.
He slid down the gum tree and jumped to the ground,
Then in through the window he sprang with a bound.

He had bright sunburned cheeks and a milky white beard.
A jolly old joker was how he appeared.
He wore red ‘Stubby’ shorts, rubber thongs on his feet,
And a hat of deep crimson as shade from the heat.

His eyes – bright as opals – Oh! How they twinkled!
And just like a goanna, his skin was quite wrinkled!
His shirt was stretched over a round bulging belly,
Which shook when he moved, like a plate full of jelly.

A fat sack of ‘prezzies’ he flung from his back,
And looked like a swaggie unfastening his pack.
He spoke not a word, but bent down on one knee,
To position our goodies beneath the Yule tree.

Surfboard and footy-ball shapes for us two.
And for Dad, tongs to use on the new barbeque.
A mysterious package he left for our mum,
Then turned and he winked and he held up his thumb;

He strolled out on the deck and his ‘roos came on cue;
Flung his sack in the back and prepared to shoot through.
He bellowed out loud as they swooped past the gates –
‘Merry Christmas to all, and goodonya, mates!’
"Those who don't think it can be done shouldn't bother the person doing it..."

Now taking orders, and stocking up on ingredients for the following celebratory beverages. Belly up to the bar, spacers, we have a moon landing in our sights, 2011, Destination - The Moon:

And, trust me, I will be carding the Rudolph crowd ... so none of you Orangina or chocolate milk drinkers try to sneak something on board ... no matter the drinking age where you live, it's 21 in Vermont, which is home to the mothership and all things erg-worthy.

Just in time....another reindeer!

Post by Kona2 » December 23rd, 2010, 4:56 pm

It's not too late....there's still time.....and Teresa took advantage of it, too! There was another great clattering of hooves, and a whole lot of antler rattling as she raced down the well worn path to the reindeer stable....and freed up reindeer 49, the Australian Kylie!

....Teresa / Kylie...

Congratulations, Teresa, on achieving the 100K Holiday Challenge Honor Board and freeing up your Australian reindeer, Kylie!

Whoop! Whoop! We get to use some of the new names in the reindeer herd!

Thanks for sharing the Australian version of the Night Before Christmas, Bazzy! And as for Minnie the Mooner being our virtual bartender.... we should definitely take her up on this! I can just see the next series of reindeer.....on Vesper, on Cosmo, on Guiness.....

Awesome, Adele! That's a lot of meters that you've rowed these past few days, and a nice round number on which to land. Reindeer prod, fer sure ... :)

Here's a few more details about my shoulder surgery: I required no rotator cuff repair, contrary to what I was told I had. That was great news to me. They did, however, grind down a large bone spur. They also found a torn biceps tendon and a very mild labral tear. So they did the "Bret Favre" procedure - that is snipping the minor biceps tendon so it would no longer irritate the joint. Then they smoothed out the labral tear and called it good. The bottom line is that my rehab will be much easier than it would have been had they found a torn rotator cuff (which they did not). So...I couldn't be more thankful. If Favre can still throw a football (an admittedly dubious assumption) after his procedure, I should be able to row to my heart's content!

Thanks for all of you for your kind and encouraging words to me.
