Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Whew! I saw a message from "kringel", and thought it was Kris Kringle bringing me my new Model E!
Karen, Enjoy your new digs! About the only good thing about moving in the winter, is that if any pests live in your clothes or furniture, they likely won't survive. And usually you can get a better deal from moving companies who don't want to sit on their hands for 3 months.
(Since you live in the home city of the Blackhawks: Be glad you don't have to row to your new home, like Chief Blackhawk did!)
People tend to exercise less when they're going through a stressful time. However, we need to try to remember that exercise is one of the best ways to deal constructively with stress!
Happy Holidays to you & Britt from Team TimbukTOO!

Mark:
Thanks for bringing this up, so that we can clarify!
"Affiliations" are independent entities; "Teams" are controlled by a Captain. The "forum thread" for the Affiliation TimbukTOO was started & controlled by Pat - you CAN control a forum thread. (Pat graciously removed the CLOSED sign from the thread.) Our "Affiliation" (that we refer to, for simplicity's sake, as our team) has used a Captain until now, but that's not necessary. A "Team", however, can't exist without a Captain. The Team Captain can literally throw someone off his team - on the "Manage Your Team" page, there is a "drop" button alongside each Team Member!
Bottom Line: Yes, you needed to join the TimbukTWO, Pat's team to join us for Team Challenges. No, you don't have to switch your Affiliation, and the ultimate controller of this forum thread is its originator, Pat M.

Susan,
Can't believe you broke your arm! Guess with everything else going on in your life...
We're here, and we're keeping the light on for you (so you can stay a dragonfly, don't need to become a firefly)!
Happy Holidays!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
VTC2011? TimbukTWO Now Bigger, Adds FOUR!
Yes, TimbukTOOians will participate in January's Virtual Team Challenge, as we have yearly! We have put up a new team called "TimbukTWO, Pat's", and the Captain's wheel will be held by my inexperienced hands, awaiting Pat's steady hand! (Okay, she told me today her steady hand is on hiatus for a while...)
So, please go to your Teams Page, pick us as your Virtual Team, & separately (yeah, that's how it works) sign up for the VTC!
Yesterday we were at 9, and today we're up to 13!
(Pam, Mark & Bernie, thanks for signing up for the Team, BUT... you still need to join the VTC!)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
A short note about the VTC sign-up...
(Background music, please)
A couple of you wanted to know if you could use a friend's e-mail address, specifically a friend with 19-inch biceps that will pummel me if I misuse their e-mail address. The answer is yes, as long as I can communicate with you, and as long as I get a 50-foot head start.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
PB today.
OK, I am still in the lower half of my class, but I rowed 14,433 m today in 60 min.
I had 2 days off the boat, while away on a business trip to Columbus OH.
The Westin had an elliptical machine, so even with the food they throw at us during these trips, I was able to maintain my sanity, and work up a sweat every morning, even as I loaded up on carbs. during the day.
Air travel is awful- but that is another story.
Back home, this morning at the gym, instead of warming up on an ARC Trainer or with a slow row, I started in at a low pace for me- 22 spm, and after 2 or 3 minutes, I realized that I was going at a strong enough pace to post a good time for a longer distance.
I have a minor ritual I do to motivate myself, which is to dedicate a workout to a friend, if one is visiting town, or to a family member if we are interacting more than typical. I do this to help get my butt in gear and commit to a longer row every now and then.
I received 2 birthday cards yesterday, so I decided to dedicate today's workout to the 2 friends who'd sent me cards.
To make what would be a very long story ( 60 minutes ) short, I saw that I was going to shatter both my 10K and 60 minute PB's, settled on a 60 minute row and dug in. I worked hard, mentally, to control my pace- keep it under 26 spm as much as possible, and I also concentrated on my form- taking full pulls, engaging my legs, digging in with my heels. Aside from pulling a bit slower between 43 and 50 minutes, I was on pace to do even better. I lost my focus for a bit of time- was never too tired to row faster- just did not do it.
However, I was able to finish fast, my last 5 minutes were between 2:01 and 2: 09, which is good for me.
And I pulled about 200 meters more than my previous PB for 60 minutes.
I can hardly wait for my new gloves to get here- " I have blisters on my fingers"!
And I signed up for the "new" team and the team challenge.
Happy Holidays: Xmas, Kwanza, New Years. ( Hanukkah is over with- and it is a minor religious holiday- although I do love the latkes and jelly doughnuts. )

I ordered a set as well on Wednesday! Currently I just have two small pieces of towel safety-pinned to the erg handles. Not the best solution....garygOP wrote: I can hardly wait for my new gloves to get here-

I should make the challenge 100k, but don't know how much over. I am pleased that I am able to row fairly strongly for 20-minute stints now with no pain or discomfort. Very grateful that my back issue was not a disc issue. Whew!

Happy belated Gary....I'll be joining you in three months in the same age category with an O year....may you and yours enjoy many more years together rowing down the rivers of tranquility.

If you're in the lower half, I'm a bottom feeder.
It has taken a lot of patience and hard work for me to improve- form and pace and repetition and fortitude and more of the same, over and over and over and over again. I dont have any people to row with at my gym-" if it is to be, it is up to me".
Happy birthday!!!
Thanks for the birthday wishes from one and all- 63 does not sound old to me anymore:>)
Is that an homage to the Beatles Helter Skelter?
yes it is. Actually the blistters are high up on my palms, just below the fingers- but I love that shout out: I've got blisters on my fingers.
I had a herniated disc about 7 years ago- it was the worst pain I have ever experienced. Tienes cuidado, muchacha.I should make the challenge 100k, but don't know how much over. I had a great row today- I am working on my pace- trying to row at 19-20 spm for an extended period as fast as I used to go at 27 spm.
little by litlle, I am getting better at this.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Welcome back, J. B. Wyatt! The Prof's return, with his 1,287,290 meters in tow, moved us into 11th place on Friday!
Sorry, guys, but when my Sabbath comes at sunset Friday, I stop the world and get off for 25 hours! So, a hat tip to Lisa "Damselfly" Hakesley for doing a "capture" of our Affiliation Detail page last night, and sending it to my e-mail box, so I don't need to do a 2-day composite list of Friday & Saturday's meters!
So, this post is FRIDAY meters (Thursday 10PM - Friday 10 PM EST) only, to be followed shortly by Saturday's...
Milestones: Steven Campbell hit 275K.
Almost there: Bryan inches from 1.5M, Steven F & Adam M have 800K within grasp, Ted closing in on 100K and Bernie on 50K. And the way Gary G rowed today, his gap of being 63K away from a cool million won't take long to close!
It's the weekend, so we're content with 15 of our 56 TimbukTOOians having their oars in the water - still over 25% - and they did add 148,491 meters!
Jeff S 20,000 Impressive!!!
Dennis B H 16,000 Extra Sweet!
Matthew R 14,061
Gary G 13,433 Birthday Self-Torture!
Andrew A 10,050
David W 10,000
Jamie B 10,000
Everett B 10,000
Kat M 9,650
Raymond W 8,066
Robyn L 7,359
Steven C 6,022
Patti S 6,000 Oars back in the water!
Sarah H 4,100
