HR monitor for PM2

Post by bobkwan2007 » November 26th, 2010, 3:59 pm

I've got a Model C with PM2, and I'm thinking about ordering a HR monitor from C2. Do I just order the HR chest belt and receiver kit from C2 for $75, and that's all there is to it?

Also, I'm thinking of switching to the newer handle, since I'm paying for S&H already. What's your opinion on the differences between the two, for those of you who've used both?

Thanks.

Not sure what you get for USD$75 but when I ordered from Concept 2 NZ you only got the receiver and not the chest belt.

The Soft strap Polar Wearlink with the replaceable battery is the way to go for a chest strap.

The New handle is worth it, Changed mine a few months ago and its an improvement over the wooden one. Don't throw the wooden one out, swap it back again if you ever sell the Model C.

Yes. It looks like the strap is the Polar Wearlink that Carl refers to.

However, if you want to use a heartrate monitor for something other than rowing, then you also need a wrist monitor. You could get the receiver for $25 and buy a polar compatible chest strap and monitor elsewhere (or through C2). Lots of options are available. Note: I believe the receiver from C2 with the PM2 monitor do not handle the polar coded transmitters.

I bought my receiver from C2 and an inexpensive polar monitor online (chest strap and wrist monitor) for less than what C2 was selling the kit for back then (I think it was in 2002). The WearLink chest strap was not available then, so I ended up with a strap that needed replacement when the battery ran out (I need to but haven't replaced it yet--I haven't been training very seriously in about 7 years and right now cannot justify spending more dollars on something I probably won't use). I have found a polar compatible strap on eBay for about $20 that supposedly is very much like the WearLink (replaceable battery), but really don't know if it will hold up as well.
