You're on the verge of the greatest achievement in the history of sports, you'd be the talk of the town, and ... William and Kate steal the spotlight! Why, those little...! You'd be well within your rights not to show up (which, incidentally, is my prediction).

Me too. Can't do it for 2K though

Now, you already said you'll be doing a leisurely 6:20 at 31 spm at BIRC. Do your daily 8 x 500 sharpening workouts support your confident prediction of some weeks back?

Rowing well at low drag, 12.5 SPI is now just a normal stroking power for me.

I have already done sub-6:30 at 12 SPI, rowing poorly at high drag.

That was over 2 seconds per 500m under Rocket Roy's 6:38.

We both did the rows when we were 55.

Rowing well (12.5 SPI) at low drag, I am much better than that now.

I am not very sharp yet, but sharpening is coming along fine.

No, I haven't done 1:32 for 8 x 500m yet, but at this point, I don't see anything that will prevent me from doing it, when I get around to it.

I worked quite a while on 1:32 @ 36 spm (12.5 SPI) this morning, just to get used to the cadence and learn to relax with it.

As I have mentioned, I'll hold the pace at BIRC 2010 that my training indicates.

At the moment, 1:37 looks like a limit until I get sharper, but I'll have to see how things go over the next couple of days.

If I am going to hold 1:37 @ 31 spm (12.5 SPI), before I leave for BIRC, it might be nice to see a 5K, 1:42 @ 26 spm (12.5 SPI) and 8 x 500m, 1:34 @ 34 spm (12.5 SPI).

I'll be working on these over the next couple of days.

Thanks for that information. I'll be sure to watch the webcast. I see from the BIRC website that our hero is in the first row. I hope the person operating the camera has the good sense to keep the camera on Ranger, the greatest erger of all time. I wouldn't want to miss one second of this historic event.

Got a URL. Is it via the BIRC/C2 Site?

There will be a link on the BIRC/C2 main page. I believe EST is 5 hours behind UK. His race is at 10:50 UK time, so 5:50am EST. 4:50 CST.

Ranger, what color will you be wearing Sunday? I want to be sure I can find you, do you still wear that hat when you race? If something crazy happens before Thursday, preventing you from going to BIRC, would you kindly post it here so we don't have to get up so crazy early Sunday to watch you shatter the WR?

So you've done 8 x 500m @ 1:35? Impressive. What was the rate?

Penultimate substantive workput before leaving for BIRC: a rather gonzo 8 x 500m/2', aiming to push through the middle no matter what.

01] 1:30.4 r34
02] 1:30.9 r34
03] 1:30.6 r34
04] 1:30.4 r34
05] 1:31.9 r35
06] 1:31.9 r35
07] 1:32.3 r34
08] 1:31.1 r35

Average 1:31.2 r34.4. New PB for the session by a fairly substantial 0.8 seconds, for whatever that's worth. I was sub-1:30 going into the last ten strokes of #8 but rigor mortis set in....

9:40 am Birmingham time, I think. I'm not looking to set the world on fire -- from experience I know how debilitating the trans-Atlantic crossing can be, and there's no telling how I'll react on race day until I try to summon the effort. I make no predictions. Still, at the moment I rather like my chances of finishing at least 10 seconds faster than Fraudger. Who I might add will be affected by the travel as well, although he'll no doubt be along to claim that he won't be.
