Fellow luna-tics
First, sorry for my absence, I'm slowly getting back to erging, the last injury has been tough to recover from, but that's not why I'm here today. I'm so very sorry to be the one to post this news, but I felt it must be shared.
I logged onto my FaceBook page tonite and saw some photo's labeled "remembering Darryl Bathel" ... I thought "WHAT?" so I found the 'wall' of the person who posted the photos and found the following:
"I'm sure you remember Darryl and Ginny Bathel from Duluth, MN. Darryl died while canoeing near home. I don't know what happened but it is just not fair especially for Ginny. They had just retired and had all kinds of fun plans on the horizon. Please let any of the West Fl paddling community who would have known him know. I just can not bring myself to believe it, he will be missed beyond comprehension."
This was posted at 5pm yesterday - I just scanned Kona's stats and noticed the last day Darryl rowed was 11/3.
Although I never got to meet him in person, it was so much fun getting to know him here. We shared a lot of good natured ribbing about which direction to face while on the water (rowers face the stern, canoe-ers face the bow). He was so talented both as a photographer and as a paddle maker. I can't believe he's gone.
I'm going back to Facebook to post a condolence message on his page,
Gina
PLEASE NOTE THE ABOVE POST.....
Remember Darryl and his wife and family in your thoughts and prayers. He was a great rowing friend and part of our family
Pat

Reading Pat's post of Gina's is very sad. I follow the Luna-Tics forum daily and Darryl seemed like a very nice and funny man. My condolences to his family and his Luna-Tic family. Very, very sad.
We had a huge day with 370323 meters rowed. Bryan added 249388 meters which really swelled our total. We are closing in on 9th place again.

Hey, Bro' Jim, how many first round draft picks did we have to trade to get Ray on our team? How many Players To Be Named Later? Dude's a stud, brought a million and a half meters, and put us deep into 9th place. Now Brian, J.B. & I have some chasing to do...
Smashed my 5K time by over 30 seconds, amazing even me. My old 5K best was 18:32, but I would sometimes pass the 5K point in other situations (like in the 30:00 race last week) at about 18:21, but I only count it if that was the actual distance rowed. Friday, I did 18:01.2, moving me from #50 to #24! Whoa!

Izzzz, that is an amazing time!!!! Holy cow!!!! What do you think helped you drop that much time? That is like a Usain Bolt drop in the 200m. Awesome baby, awesome.
About Ray, he just sent me an email and asked about the team. I told him about our philosophy and he joined anyway
And since New Mexico doesn't have a Pro baseball team and my slim connection to the Cubs, I had to promise if they ever thought of relocating, it wouldn't be NM. Wish we could get Katerina, Robyn, and Jerry back too.
Soooo- we had an awesome rowing day with 183419 meters rowed not counting the million plus added.

Thanks Jim, and a warm welcome to Ray!

Congratulations to Cathie for passing 600K season meters
Way to row!
We had another super meter day with 184405 meters rowed! Terrific rowing team. Please be careful and don't over row, we want you healthy. The big numbers are fantastic and if it is what you can do, go for it. But , your health is the main concern, and injury free, is how you should be

Have a wonderful , safe week. My grandkids have off school today. We celebrate deer day here
Deer season is in full swing, and out here in the boonies, it can get very dangerous. Better have orange on if you are outside. I have had several narrow misses as I did my morning walks in the past. Scary to hear a bullet whiz past and take bark off a nearby tree.

Ray, thank you for your service to our incredible country! Congratulations on becoming a Dad, and glad to see you're bringing that military discipline with you into civvie life.
Concept2 will keep you in great shape, and General BroJim will keep (gently) pushing you, as he leads from the front. And don't go AWOL on him - he has grandchildren everywhere who will take you out!
We're honored to have you on our team, and thanks for catapulting us over those duckies!
