I will "go down" --permanently.

I will never be beat Roy's WR because instead of giving myself for a record I will foolishly go out to fast for my strength endurance capacity.

Then, remarkably/learning nothing about the experience, after going back to the BattCave, I'll engage in the same sorry spectacle all over again.

For a lightweight, 6:16 is under the erg qualification time for the US National Team.
Did I tell you what drugs I'm on to be able to suggest that I'm as good as a young elite?
This just in from Twitter:
ranger has contacted the exec. director of the Head of the Charles asking permission to enter the Championship Open Lightweight category for 2011.

Your max is 198bpm? I missed it. Did you see that on the trainer as you hoped to?

I am happy to have you come over to BIRC 2010 and display the results of your superior training.

Do you think you are better OTErg than you were last year?

If so, how much better--and why?

If not, why not?

Sure.

But the erg standard for lightweights, as I remember, is 6:16.

To be of national calibre OTW, you can't just feather well and steer.

You have to have a pretty big engine, too.

The best OTW rowers are also the best ergers.

Where is your evidence to back that fatuous claim?

I'd put money on the best OTW rowers hating the ergo more than anyone else in the World. It's a winter training tool when the weather gods put paid to rowing on water with rain, snow, frost or fog. For real OTW rowers they're going to be out in a boat every time when possible rather than sitting in the boat house on an ergo.

Graham Benton was clearly better on the ergo than in a boat when he started, he's now converted to being better in a boat (with lots of time working with a qualified coach).

Funny I didn't read that anywhere in the rules..
(stick to erging , Rich... watt production is you specialty... not boat speed..)

Here we go again: regnar will say: The best rowers row the fastest time on the C2 erg... we'll except for people like Grobler who doesn't even train on the C2 erg.

C2 has recognized that the Model D and E need updating and will intrduce the Dynamic erg soon... Putting an end to anchor haulers who won't be able to score as well as they did on what will be seen as part of the evolution of the indoor rower...

Bye, bye yanking; hello rowing.
People like Rich should at least consider erging on slides in the meantime... that is: if they want to remain competitive in the limited backwater know as Indoor Rowing Competition...

The female WR holder (hwt) on the erg never got a major title OTW...
Closer to home: What OTW titles does Siebach have?... (He a great athlete and doesn't race much otw... but he does go to Masters Nationals.... in sweep boats...

Will we see ranger at Nationals .... ever....
No.

as usual: RIch doesn't know much about what he's holding forth about..
once again showing himself to be a troll.

Mike--

When you train OTErg, you pretty much just prepare to race, or sharpen.

Why?

When you go to sharpen, you can't do anything like 1:32 @ 36 spm as a training rate and pace for short intervals, as I am now doing.

You miss it by seven seconds per 500m.

Why?

I would suggest this:

This is because, when you train OTErg, you pretty much just prepare to race, or sharpen.

[Repeat]

[Repeat]

[Repeat]

Seems like a vicious circle to me.

After a _very_ short while, no one improves by just sharpening.

They only get worse and worse.

You only improve your AT, TR, and AN rowing by improving your UT rowing.

Ssssh, we'd better not tell TSO that C2UK will be demonstrating the dynamic "Model F" at BIRC.

I've rowed on slides at BIRC (on the C2 commercial stand) last couple of times. It's so much easier (as long as you don't slam into front stops) and so much less strain on the back. This year I'll be trying the dynamic ergo for at least 1000m.

My comments at the moment are on training.

In terms of training, by and large, you don't do at all OTErg what you do OTW (i.e., row long distances at low rates working on technique and distance per stroke).

You should ask Henrik Stephansen about that...you know, the world record holder OTErg, and the only lightweight to pull under 6:00 in competition.
