Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
There are only a few weeks left before BIRC. Do you have any clue as to WHEN you might do this mythical 8x500 workout? How about a date? How about showing the workout? Or instead, get on and take one huge pull and show us that awesome force curve. Maybe at BIRC you could just show up with a photo of your force curve and the judges will award you the championship and the new WR. Maybe they wouldn't even require the photo. You could just tell them about all the 1:48/22 you've been doing and how it correlates to a 6:20. They will simply pen your 6:20 into the record books.
Re: Ranger's training thread
If your fitness is maximal, your force curve when you are just rowing along with your natural stroking power and normal technique is the most important thing about your rowing.aharmer wrote:Maybe at BIRC you could just show up with a photo of your force curve
By and large, everyone the same age and weight with comparable training and commitment races a 2K at the same rate.
The rower with the most effective and efficient stroke wins.

Nah, no special time.aharmer wrote:There are only a few weeks left before BIRC. Do you have any clue as to WHEN you might do this mythical 8x500 workout?
I hope I get it done a heck of lot more times than just once, though.
You can get quite a big improvement in the workout if you do it five or ten times.
Three seconds per 500m?
A good strategy, I think, is to do the first go at 2K pace. Then in subsequent sessions, slowly grind that down to 2K - 3.
So, if I am shooting for 6:20 at WIRC, I might start at 1:35 (which predicts a new 55s lwt WR) and then try to grind that down to 1:32.
No 55s lwt now rowing can do much better than 1:38 for 8 x 500m (3:30 rest).

Re: Ranger's training thread
No it's not. For starters you cannot row continuously for 60 minutes at 1:49. I doubt you can row for 30 minutes continuously at 1:49. So, no, your UT2 is not 1:49.ranger wrote:Yes, it is.lancs wrote:your UT2 pace isn't 1:49)

Re: Ranger's training thread
Since no one else is posting any 8 x 500m/3:30 rest sessions here, I thought I would:
That's 1:31.3 average r34 (per the PM), or 13.5 spi.
I'll freely admit that Mistress Lactate came calling in rep #7 (actually the last 100m of #6). But then there is still a month until BIRC to work on it.....

Interesting -- makes you wonder why they bother timing the races.ranger wrote:The rower with the most effective and efficient stroke wins.

Re: Ranger's training thread
I'm well aware of the strategy behind the sessions. I was interested in whether you will actually employ this strategy, or just talk about it on a message board? Maybe Nav could instruct you on how to take a screenshot of a real workout.ranger wrote:Nah, no special time.aharmer wrote:There are only a few weeks left before BIRC. Re: Ranger's training thread
How can you possibly state that, making it appear as a fact? You don't have the first faintest idea what Roy could achieve on the ergo (assuming he was training for it).ranger wrote: When he was just 55, Rocket Roy pulled the 55s lwt WR at 6:38.
Now, four years later, training the same way, he would have a hard time pulling 6:50.
Roy gave up the ergo after his LWT WR to concentrate on his other sport. He'd had many years off the bike but has consistently shown himself to be a worthy age-group contestant (and a whole bunch quicker on his bike than you'll ever be).
Why do you do this constant denegration of other people's achievements? Why don't you concentrate on getting your performance back to 6:40 or 6:39 or 6:38 (which you may just be capable of)? When you can beat Mike VB and Roy on the ergo, on the water or on the bike (as appropriate) you'll have a reason to gloat. Until then you should simply shut up and get on with sharpening for your next competition.
Re: Ranger's training thread
No it isn't. Not until you produce any evidence that it is. Particularly since you have such a penchant for telling lies.ranger wrote:Yes, it is.lancs wrote:your UT2 pace isn't 1:49
I'd expect someone with a UT2 pace of 1:49 to be able to pull a 10k r22 @ 1:49. As we know, you can't do that.

You are very wrong. He is very successful at getting people to pay attention to him and respond to his posts.Flipper21 wrote:....

Crudely put, you have joined the enablers.
Nothing wrong with that if you enjoy the entertainment, just don't pretend otherwise.
