This shit is too good to be true.

ranger finally shows up and rows. He then proceeds to crash and get dunked.

After which he returns to the board to explain that the collision was not his fault, and further reports on how fast and capable he is, pissing on Byron in the process.

You would be hard-pressed to find a more self-serving, mean-spirited human being alive anywhere on the planet today.

Truly exceptional performance, ranger. You always deliver.

Mike--

So, what are you shooting for at the Head of the Charles next week?

2:05 @ 26 spm?

If so, do you think that is realistic, or just a pipe dream?

I suppose we'll soon see.

Do you know where they were?

Where I was earlier is not the issue.

Hard to miss where I was when I was swimming, no?

I had a hard time looking around before I was in the water, but I had no problem looking around once I was there.

And indeed, it is right about on the centerline.

Nope.

The truth is not pissing.

It's just the truth.

Byron needs to _earn_ the right to be in an "advisory" position about rowing.

He has done nothing of the sort.

So, there it is.

I am happy to hear about Byron's progress in the sport, if that is his ambition.

But right now, I hear nothing.

At the moment, Byron can't row worth a damn.

So, he should just be quiet and enjoy the accomplishments of others, if he likes to enjoy accomplished rowing.

His rowing is nothing of the sort.

No, the truth is not evil.

Never said they would. My views are more along the lines of Richard Dawkins

"Frank Zappa The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing lyrics"

Some take the bible
For what it's worth
When it says that the meek
Shall inherit the Earth
Well, I heard that some sheik
Has bought New Jersey last week
'N you suckers ain't gettin' nothin'

Is Hare Rama really wrong
If you wander around
With a napkin on
With a bell on a stick
An' your hair is all gone...
(The geek shall inherit nothin')

You say yer life's a bum deal
'N yer up against the wall...
Well, people, you ain't even got no
Deal at all
'Cause what they do
In Washington
They just takes care
of NUMBER ONE
An' NUMBER ONE ain't YOU
You ain't even NUMBER TWO

Those Jesus Freaks
Well, they're friendly but
The shit they believe
Has got their minds all shut
An' they don't even care
When the church takes a cut
Ain't it bleak when you got so much nothin'
(So whaddya do)
Eat that pork
Eat that ham
Laugh till ya choke
On Billy Graham
Moses, Aaron 'n Abraham...
They're all a waste of time
'N it's yer ass that's on the line
(IT'S YER ASS THAT'S ON THE LINE)

Do what you wanna
Do what you will
Just don't mess up
Your neighbor's thrill
'N when you pay the bill
Kindly leave a little tip
And help the next poor sucker
On his one way trip. . .
SOME TAKE THE BIBLE. . .
(Aw gimme a half a dozen for the hotel room!)

Rich, you're a piece of work. At almost 60, you know squat about humility!

OK - what does some-one have to do to "earn the right" to be in an advisory position about rowing?

hey dipshit,

you went in the water. accept that you screwed up bigtime. you haven't come close to producing any of the world class performances you've been promising for several years.

the number of people who could help you, if you had the wit to listen, is almost innumerable. but you lack such basic awareness of the truth.

you're a sad, needy, lonely, argumentative, rumplestiltskin-like caricature of an athlete.

Better luck next time. Don't let it discourage you. There are collisions under even the best conditions.
Yes, you are _very_ encouraging, Mike.

I have no problem with the physical side of the OTW rowing at all.

When I rate 26 spm, I go 2:05. [yikes, that's pretty fast - was that your speed just before you impaled the eight?]

And I could have rowed the course, stem to stern, very easily. [?]

Given my erg times, 2:05 @ 26 spm, is still rowing pretty badly OTW, too, about 23 seconds per 500m over my erg times.
-snip-
Learning to steer head races will no problem.[ ]
I just need to rate 26-28 spm in practice and get into a rhythm of looking over my shoulder (and quickly gather information relevant to steering).
I have no problem looking over my shoulder while rowing hard. [despite recent evidence to the contrary]

I just don't do it very often, [ ] and never, really, when I am rowing hard at 26-28 spm.
-snip-

It was difficult for me to manage the (pretty big) bend in the river on a course that I have never rowed hard on.

I'm dyin' over here!!!

rangerboy - I'm going to send you the cleaning bill - I snorted a nice red Zin out my nose I was laughing so hard when I read Byron's kind but factual description of your amazingly predictable total incompetence.

rangerboy, I just can't believe you actually DNF'ed AGAIN! In your first race, one you said you were going to practice for umpteen times. CANNOT wait for the official results! In the meantime, please help us with details -

Have you been charged with reckless sculling?
How much damage to the eight?
Do you have collision on the Winderbag?
What's the deductible?
Any estimate on the repair costs for the Winderbag?
How was the water? Invigorating?
Who dragged you out, and did you thank them?
Have your waterwings with you?
How about the rubber ducky?
Is this part of the rangerplan, a incredible devious yet brilliant plan to lull us all into a false sense of your incompetence before you roar down the course at the Charles - if you ever get in? promise I won't tell...

Byron, please tell me there's video.

I think I cracked a rib laughing... :o
I've got an extra inflatable life vest - send me your address and I'll send it over - gratis.

However, compared to you, Byron is faaaar more competent above the water - that's the generally-accepted best way to propel a sculling boat.

Whereas you rangerboy, can't even get down the course ONCE.

You've got some balls, rangerboy, to denigrate a guy who actually made it down the course after you speared another crew while demonstrating your complete incompetence.

Can't win if you don't finish, rangerboy, and as of now, i'm thinking your 500m split is indeed 2:05 - that's hours and minutes, and counting....

Byron did indeed demonstrate a rowing skill today that you were clearly lacking...the ability to steer down the same stretch of river on the same day - from the start line to the finish line, without hitting anything. :)

How on earth can you row OTW for SEVEN years and not learn something about steering ~ boggles the mind.

BTW - you really should have listened to your coach when he was telling you that you should have gone for some practice rows over the course on both Friday and Saturday.
